View Full Version : Massey MF-10
Quiet in here, where are all the Massey fans?...I just picked up a MF-10 last night, it was a freebie :bannana: , I was going to part it, but after looking it over, it looks like it could be a good worker tractor. Somebody has replaced the original engine,(Tecumseh?), with an 8 horse Kohler, haven't had a chance to see if it will run yet. It came with a front blade that angles and trips, a snowblower that looks to have never been used, and a decent mower deck. I'll post pics later, was to dark to take any when I got it home last night...

Great deal on the Massye, Coop! They are built like tanks and you got some good attachments with yours. They made 2 different style snowblowers for them. The early style was pretty much all mounted to the front of the tractor. The later style had more framework running back under the tractor. If you need any info I have a shop manual and a parts manual for the 10 and 12 models.
Here's some pics of the haul...

I had one of those for 29 yrs, gave up trying to wear it out and gave it to my oldest son a few years ago. He still uses it to mow his yard and move his motorcycle trailer around.

That vintage Massey was a VERY solid machine. Used a variator drive similar to the same vintage Deere 110 and 112.

I really like the look of those ones. There are not many brands of garden tractors today that actually look like a real tractor but those ones sure do. I always wanted one of the larger in that family like a 150D or a 165D heck even a 135 would have been nice. Those GT series and the smaller full size tractors don't seem to have been very popular in western Canada. Mind you most farmers need 200+ hp tractors and even those are too small to pull the 35 - 55 ft air seeders these guys use now.

Ahh, brings back memories! I mowed many a yard with my dad's MF10, right down the road from you in Afton. They were indeed built like a tank.

I've still got a MF12 hydro, it's in a million pieces waiting for a resto. Thinking of useing the 18hp Onan from my 1855MF and the complete two speed rearend hydro unit from a MF16. The motor pulley is different between a hydro and a variable drive, if no one else can come up with the size let me know, I'll call my son and have him measure the one on his tractor. The basic difference in the MF10&12 was an 1/8th inch bore and the decals. I rebuilt the motor on mine in 1979, bored it out and put a 12hp piston in, put in bronze valve guides, three angle valve job, and balanced it! Buddy of mine worked in a machine shop.

Attached are pics of my AMF 1010, just like a MF-10 except the AMF grill/nose piece is a single piece of cast iron. Has variator drive and original Tecumseh 10hp engine and 42" deck. Starts right up everytime and I use it regularly to mow, pull a cart and pull a dethatcher. It's a tough little beast. Very, very little plastic. Lot's of steel and iron.
The engine is running in these pics. It puffs a little smoke at start up then quickly clears up.

Last two shots. I even have the cigarette lighter, it's in the tool box under the seat for now. It vibrates out of the cigarette lighter holder in the dash when I run the tractor. I love the tool box under the seat. I wish my JD's had that feature.

Looks like hood/grill and paint were the only difference to a MF. I put a cigaette lighter in mine in the plate where the hood latch is and it always worked like it was suppose to. The motors were bolted solid to the frame on those tractors that's why I balanced mine when I rebuilt it. It helped!
