Last Friday was kind of a big day for me. I ended up with two more tractors. One of them is another Bolens to add to my collection. This one is an Ingersoll 448. It runs and drives great. Just needs a little work on the pto clutch. Once it's fixed, this will be my primary mower.

Looks verry nice!! Looks to be about the same year as my 444. Late 80;s. There a good strong tractor, and the PTO's are fixable. Whats it doing? Most of the time they are just out of adjustement, and dont stay engaged.

The Ingersoll is an 87. Or at least I think it is. It has a 25th anniversary decal on it, says 1962 to 1987. I'm actually not sure how the damage to the clutch happened. Somehow the disc got out of allignment and got tore up. Is that disc supposed to be bonded to the belt pulley? Or does it just rely on the step on the pulley to keep it lined up? Here's a picture.

The forklift in the background is an old three-wheeled Hyster. It comes in quite handy around the garage. The Bolens I bought is another 1050. It's very rough. That brings me to six tubeframes. I'll try to get some pics of the Bolens and the forklift and post them in the appropriate forums sometime this weekend.

It should be bonded to the pulley. I would guess the last owner replaced it, and they did not install it right. You can get a newone from the dealer. The part number is C23740. it comes with instructions on how to install it also.

Excellent! I was heading to the dealer this morning to check on that. Now I can be prepared with a part number. Thanks!

No problem. There is a few PTO manuals out on the web, but if you cant find it, give a screem, and I can scan it for you. Shows how to assamble it,[corectly, most of the times a Ingersoll PTO does not work, its assambled wrong] and how to adjust it.

Ingersoll,

I got the clutch kit today, and bonded the new disc to the pulley. Now I'm ready to install it. You wouldn't by chance have a link to one of those manuals online would you? I haven't had any luck finding one. This new disc is thicker than the old one, so I'm sure I need to change some shims around.

Probably not. The shims are set to work with a new, or warn disc. The space is taken up with the screw adjuster on the front. I have a link somewere on my work computer, I will send it out later today.

Screw adjuster huh? I put this thing back together last night. All the shims and everything went back exactly the way they were. Something is definately wrong somewhere though. The clutch won't disengage. If I push the handle too far forward, the clutch arm rubs on the flywheel screen.

Something is set up wrong. Its realy easy to do. One of the most common thing is to nest the two cupped washers. They shoud be big side to big side so they work as a spring. The second biggest mastake to they two peices he lever fits in, should be installed so the slots are offset , not line up. Hard to explane, but if you go to that web site, and go to the files section, you will see some info on the clutch. Then it will all make sence. Good luck.

Thanks for the help Ingersoll. I got it all straightened out today. I had the two pieces that the fork engages in set up wrong. It works fine now.

No problem. Glad I could help.

So how she mow? The 448's were the cream of the crop.

It mows great. The engine and mower deck are both super quiet. The 60" deck will make a big difference in the mowing time here. I used it for about 15 minutes yesterday. My girlfriend was outside watching the whole time just waiting for me to hand it over. She loves to mow for some strange reason, so I let her take over. It's going to take her a while to get used to it. It's quite a bit larger than the Bolen's tubeframe she had been using.

That puts you 4 ahead of me.
All I have is 2 Bolens 850's but I'm looking for one of the Bolens diesels.

Well actually I've bought another tube-frame since then.

Good luck with your hunt for a diesel. Are you looking for an Iseki, or one of those ultra rare Bolens built tractors?

I live close to Madison. Right at the moment I don't have any that I want to sell. However, I know of a large frame nearby that could probably be bought. I can't tell for sure, but looking from the road I think it's an 1886.
