I've had this tractor for a number of years. K301 Kohler, hydro, a true monster. I can't believe the loads this little tractor pulls, when I can keep the front wheels on the ground that is! I got it from my brother in law. Everything works great, but the hydro is real noisy, always has been. Louder than the k301 even. Tried changing the filter, no help. The vent has a freeze plug in it, with some holes drilled in it. This seems wrong. I added a few more holes, no help. Any ideas? It works great, but it seems the hydro shouldn't be making this much racket. Kinda a whinny noise. :thanku:

Since no one wants to take a crack at this I'll try. I've heard that all hydros make noise, some more than others. My Jake 1450 seems very quiet to me, though I can hear it, its nowhere near as loud as my K-321 Kohler. The Noma rider we have has a noisier hydro and has been that way since we've had it. Your tractor is newer than mine so I believe the hydro units are different.
Are you sure that the fluid level is correct? I know that when my cars Power steering pump was low on fluid it would make an awful whiny sound - the same principle as a hydro unit, both being hyd. pumps. Is it the proper fluid or is it contaminated?
The other thing I would look into is replacing the breather with the proper one.
If you have no luck with my suggestions you might try other topics on this forum since your hydro was probably installed in other brands of tractors. It would be a big help if you could identify the make and model of the unit.
