I'm in the process of painting my TO-30. While most of this old boy has been dutifully painted so many times by the farmer the majority of it will continue to be red, I was able to find enough of the original finish to recreate it just on the engine.

Here's the recipe-

Prime with gray primer.
One coat aluminum high heat engine paint.
Mist coat with flat black.
Mist coat with Rustoleum Iris Blue
Mist coat with flat black

The final glossy sheen (and lasting durability) is obtained with a coat of Rustoleum Clear enamel (or laquer), but I left that part off because it's easier to just touch it up as a satin finish.

A note on mist coats- Mask everything you don't want to coat, then hold the can in the general direction of where you want to paint (16 inches away or so). Create a cloud of paint and let it settle. This cretaes a fine speckle of the three colors, silver, black and blue as in the original metalflake paint.

Hope this helps someone who want;s to get some of their original luster back....

That's really clever of you to figure out a way to do that, and it looks great!
