I'm going to look at a Ford CM 274 tomorow, which is a commercial front mount mower, (looks pretty much identical to JD's front mount mowers.) Seller is a dealer who seems to be more into cars and such. He Thinks it's a 96 model, has 1800 hours on it. He also says it's a 20 horse deisel, but I can't find any such engine. They seem to be 22 or 27 horse. Anybody have any knowledge they can pass along on these machines?

From the looks of it, and knowing the Ford GT history, I would guess it was made by Jackobson. Other then that, I have no idea. I have seen them around before though.

I had one for years. It was a 92 CM224. That machine there is a 27 HP with automatic or full time 4x4 machine with a 72" mower. I believe it is all Shibaura underneath, with a 3 cyl. diesel. From the looks of it it has the turning brakes and a differential lock and a two pedal forward reverse set-up. They are good machines as long as they have been taken care of. You also have a two speed tranny and if you are lucky a weight transfer valve which will take the front mower weight and put it on the drive wheels. You can also rotate the front rims to get a batter wider more stable stance.

Thanks for the info. Went to look at it. It's in terrible condition, think WW2. 140 miles for nothing. Back to thinking about just re-powering the John Deere.
