Hey Folks,
Do we have many (any) MTF members that own, have owned or are familiar with makes and models of the brands imported from China?

Are you sure about LG? Last I knew, LG Cable was a Korean based manufacturer, who spun off their heavy equipment arm now called LS Cable. They manufacture highly regarded, and believed by many to be at least equal to any Japanese offering, brands such as Branson, FarmTrac, and Montana.

dbear,
Whoops!
After retracing my steps and double checking my notes, I stand corrected. The LG, now LS Cable is, as you stated Korean. I will remove it from the list...and thanks

The local TSC had a 4 WD Nortrac out the other day. Not sure size but probably around 25-30 HP range w/ FEL. Looked pretty substantial and well built.

:Welcome1: tfields. I wish I knew more about the Chinese import lines...but I'm learning.
I look forward to your 'equipment review' and your pictures. I would certainly enjoy all the good (and less than) points you care to share. There are a few here with Jinmas...kind of back up for their big domestic brothers. You just can't find anything new with 20 HP in the U.S. for $4200.
Hey regardless, check out the MTF site, relax and put your feet up - Lots of great info around here.

I wouldn't hesitate to barrow and update the list from May of '07 if Wikpedia listed their tractors by origin of manufacturer. I'll be looking through the links you provided to see if there is a way to consolidate that information.

I bought a Jinma 354, 4 cylinder diesel tractor after much research and much trepidation about a year ago; I bought it from an importer in Canada who would have it delivered to a local port. The tractor bought that way is dirt cheap; however, (big however) it comes really knocked down for shipping in sea containers with other tractors and the assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired. Once I got past the intimidation factor it was not too difficult to assemble and everything was there including the spare parts.
The diesel fired right up and runs like a fuel miserly clock. It appears that they completely build and test the tractors prior to tearing them back down for shipping.
I ordered an American made Koyker FEL for the tractor because they had a good name and my ulterior thought was that if the Chinese tractor doesn't work out I can get a kit to mount it onto almost anything. If I had it to do over again I would buy the Jinma FEL as Koyker was no real help with several installation problems.
I bought the tractor while I was living in Maryland to haul down to the place with 20 acres that I bought in the Western Florida Panhandle. Shortly after I hauled it down, with almost no use on it the starter locked up; I started to get that sickening feeling in my stomach and had the starter repaired locally (it was merely a snap ring that had come out of place and lodged in the starter gear.) I have since used it extensively with a 5 foot bush hog that I bought; I've been clearing fields that were full of 6 foot high weeds with no mechanical problems at all.
In retrospect I made the right decision, the Chinese tractor was 1/2 the cost of a new John Deere or Kubota. It starts very easily and turns the bush hog very well, the diesel is extremely miserly with fuel. Most of the local farmers who use their equipment every day and whose livlihood depends on their equipment have John Deere tractors though.
I was pretty thorough in checking out Jinma before I bought the tractor though and even checked with several American companies who sell repair parts for them. One of the things that helped my decision was that Northern Tool is selling NorTrak tractors made by Jinma, that says that the parts availability situation is well in hand. Tractor Supply Co. (TSC) is also selling Chinese tractors with Koyker FELs, they looked pretty substantial to me. Knowing what I know at this point I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Welcome to MTF roytarbutton!
Thank you for sharing an interesting and informative post concerning your Jinma 354.
As you can see we have only a small population of Chinese tractor owners and limited threads…but that could change with new members like you.
It would seem that the more time that elapses, the better these tractors are. Their early reputation was somewhat suspect with small, nagging problems but through owner networking the problems have all but disappeared.
Love to see pictures of your tractor, attachments and your Florida property IF you have any to share.

Mark,
I'm back in maryland now where I have my house listed for sale, the tractor is at at my Florida property and I won't be going back down for a couple of more weeks. I only have pictures on this computer of the tractor when it was finished on it's maiden voyage around the yard. I'm in no way computer illiterate but I can't seem to find out how to put a digital picture on the site or in a message.
If I can find out how to post pictures I will post some with the tractor wearing both the FEL and the bush hog when I return to Florida.

I'm not 100% sure this tractor is Chinese, but given the price and vendor, it's a safe guess.
I haven't found any mention of this tractor anywhere on the net, so I thought you guys might know somehting or might be interested in knowing of its existence.
Looks to me like the newest version / model of the Jinma, but I could be mistaken.
If you're looking for spare wheels / tires for tractors, not sure what model you are interested in, but the Rural King in Columbus Indiana has a TON of spares for the Jinmas (Tractor King Brand). They are often pretty reasonable, as the parts are just taking up space in their back storage rooms. That's where I pick up little extra I need. (I have no affiliation other than the manager is nice to me every time I need something).

My neighbor bought a 2007 35 horsepower (354) a couple of months ago. He has used it for only a few hours and has already had to replace the water pump, starter, and part of the hydraulics. He paid $7500 for it and a FEL.
Runs great - when it runs.......:i_praying

I have a NorTrac 254 with FEL. The loader was built in Wisconsin for Northern Tool. I ordered it with an extra set of mounted Turf Tires also. I bought a NorTrac 72' 3pth Finish Mower at the same time. It has about 160 hours and no problems. It has a ton of grease fittings. Very happy with that.[IMG]

There are a couple tractors out there that wasn't mentioned in the post, the YTO, the KM & TY from the YITUO group who incidentally has an annual world wide sales record of 15,000,000 units. This figure probably includes farming equipment along with their tractors sales.
The YTO is a very nice looking tractor. Here's a link on YTOs which includes information on Foton and Jinma.
http://www.china-tractors.com/content/81/index.htm
YTO&KM&TY Tractor
The DFH tractor line is built by the oldest tractor manufacture in China which was established around 1955.
We won't see some of these tractors sold here at the present time due to the strict emissions regulations, which their engines don't meet.
Also, if you don't need 4 wheel drive, don't pay for it, you can save a bunch of money buying a 2 wheel drive tractor and have less maintence. If your only going to mow grass, do a little grading, plowing etc, you don't need 4 wheel drive. JMHO. PJ

I forgot to mention this when I first read this post, but I think someone at Harbor Freight might have jumped the gun on this one. The tractor illustrated is not for sale at the present time. It's actually been removed from their list. They are selling rough cut and finish 3 point mowers now, along with PTO shafts and a slip clutch. The price on their PTO shaft is low compared to others. I got a good deal on the last shaft I bought for 80 bucks at a local farm supply, HFs are in the mid 50s I believe. But, I didn't have to pay shipping and I got to see what I was buying before I paid for it. Which is good. PJ

I'm in Huntington, IN home of Homiers or HDC. I've looked at those tractors and think these are pretty crude in casting and finish departments. I've seen some around county that are for sale, and still look new, so thinking they are a lemon. Never stopped in to ask the seller his thoughts though, I wanted to. I was told these were Jinma's and that they built almost all the brands advertised in US. Just change the color and maybe hood shape, new brand! I have bought a rear blade from Homiers, chinese, and it was OK for the lawn tractor that I had, but I sold it after I sold tractor. It was able to be 4, 5, or 6ft by adding sections, kinda neat idea. I saw list here saying no help from Homiers, and they didn't have a clue on problems. I've had that with junk tools from there. There is a scrap metal place in town and at times I've seen tubs of their tools, pretty much complete going to scrap!
The tractors they have on site now, sit out in rain and are half rusty, wonder how they can sell one as "new". They did start a new line of bigger sizes, they said were not Jinma's but some other company. They don't look any cleaner built. I met a Jinma dealer at a WI show that gets his in, they repaint most of hood and sheet metal parts, replace all the orig gauges, and go over them top to bottom to clean up, salesman says. I was told once that Homiers had the only distributorship for these tractors in US, but don't think that was right.
Being an American Auto Worker, blasted with "Buy American" all the time, I try to stay to that, but not much out there that isn't Chinese anymore. I DO think the Kioti line of Korean tractors looks like a good product, and cheaper than many brands from anywhere. For now, I'll just watch the Chinese junk, but probly wouldn't buy one till proven.

I have a 2520 Farm Pro with a Koyker loader. 3 cylinder diesel, seems to use a lot of fuel. I use it quite often and have not had many problems with it. Did blow a seal on the 3 point lift right after I got while moving 1100 pound big bales. It does not do mud very well unless you put it in front wheel assist, then it is non stopable.
Seems as thought the steering wheel can be constantly turned when turning. Thinking maybe a valve is leaking by or something. Really does not affect it after you get use to it. Over all a pretty good little loader tractor. Have saved my back many a time.
A lot cheaper than a mahrinda, was about 1/2 the price of same size tractor.
I would not recomend this tractor for very heavy daily use, but great for light work. I got it mainly for the loader usuage. Loader is stronger than the tractor.
