Well now that the work week is winding down and I have received my operators manual and service manual I will have the chance to get back to the Ranch and further familiarize myself with my new to me tractor.
The sending unit looks pretty bad and the wire coming from it is exposed. It looks like there was more to it at one time but I suspect I will have to order a new sending unit.

I have been keeping tabs on the engine and coolant temperature with a laser IR Gun that I have found to be pretty accurate. Beats running it with no temp indication. I just shoot the block and radiator to get the temp. But this is unacceptable for long term use.

Well be safe and have fun. Sure sounds like a bad temp sender...I mean what else could it be? I think it's a single wire sender with a female connector at the top and threads into the water pump (I believe) on your model.

That sounds right, I will look at it closely and see if there may be a break in the wire. I need to remember to take my trusty voltmeter.

I am going to take my camera and hopefully get some pics.

I already shot off an email inquiring about a replacement sending unit.

SHARPKNIFE, The temp gauge on my 2200 had the needle broken off very short and required a very close inspection to monitor the temp. I got tired of this and found a replacment on the net and I was to cheap to pay the price. I went to the discount auto parts and got a standard automotive mechanial gauge and installed it. The light wiring was just a swap of the wires, the unit fit the same hole in the dash perfect and the probe end fit the hole where the sender was removed. The threads for the probe matched the sender unit threads with no modifacation. It took less than a half hour for the exhange and less than fifteen bucks.
