My coolant water level indicator comes on immediately when I turn the key on my F20D. Until I receive my operators manual, I can only assume that this is for the radiator coolant, (which is full). Do I have a coolant or sensor problem?
Thanks

Glad to see your first post Iragan.. :fing32:
I am not familiar with the Yanmar, but does the indicator go off after the motor is started??
Does it work like an auto?? All lights come on when the key is on to show that they are working..

First off, :Welcome1:
From the schematic I have it looks like your instrumentation is sim to mine. If the indicator light your seeing is the second one down on the left, that is the coolant level.
Can I assume your temp gauge appears to be working OK?
I've not personally looked for the coolant sensor but I'd do so and disconnect the wires and see if the light goes off. If so that would be a good indication that there is aproblem with the sensor.
Here is a copy of the electrical schmatic.

By your schematic, it seems that the coolant switch is on some sort of variable resistor. Perhaps a float assembly? The temp guage seems to be working ok, so I think the problem is probably in the sensor. I just needed to know that the indicator was for a coolant level, which it apparently is.
Thanks

Ken,
To answer your question the light does not go off after the engine is started. All lights come on when starting the engine, then go off with the exception of the coolant level indicator.
Nice to have the expertise available on this forum. I just purchased the F20D and as soon as I got it home the sensor failed. I am ordering a manual From Hoye Tractor so that I can have a better definition of the controls and indicators. Are there decals available to replace the Japanese instructions on the tractor?
Thanks again

Iragan,
I'm nearly positive what you are seeing is a battery electrolyte level indicator. This is standard to their (Japan) batteries and one of the first items addressed when first imported. You should see a twin pin plug that fits nothing (and goes nowhere) on the headlamp harness...you can make a simple jumper wire that should distinguish the dash lamp.
***edit***If I remember correctly, the dash icon should be a battery with a water mark across the top and not the icon with the diagonal lightning bolt.
If you're not sure or uncomfortable...you can also ground your temp sender wire to the block to check temperature light on the dash.

check for loose ground for indicator or loose wires at back of sensor?

Mark, on the F series, there is both a battery and coolant level indicator. Check out the posted schematic.

Right Mickey,
According to your schematic there is the lamp indicator and low battery water sensor, but if there is no battery plug (female) to complete the series (like all U.S. batteries) then the circuit remains open....Right?
Although there are great differences in the YM and F(X) models..I believe this is one of the constants in their models. I could be wrong :).

Mark, Haven't messed with or even looked at the battery level sensor. It's what ever way it was when I got he tractor from Ernie.

:thanku:
I think you may be right cause when I drove it today, the light did not stay on. The temp guage seemed to work o.k. so I wasn't too concerned.
If anyone is up for more questions, I am going to put a R
OPS unit on the tractor and would like to know the similarities between the Yanmar tractors. Is there another model that is similar enough to the F20 so if I find a ROPS that will fit one, it will fit the other?
I know that Yanmar built John Deere engines but is there a model of J.D. that is identical to the Yanmar F20D?
Thanks again for all of the input. By the way, my tractor is a F20D with a Koyker 120 FEL. I plan on adding a 4-5 ft. bush hog so that I can keep some acreage clear and move some dirt around. I like the tractor alot and as I get used to it, I think I will like it even more. I don't think my wife realized what a monster she created when she suggested we retire and move to the Ozark mountains.

Way to go Edward...often the simplest approach is the right one.
Iragan, You may have to check with gray market dealers that stock certified ROPS like LMTC or Hoye. I know there are several applications for YM series but not too sure about the "F".
I haven't heard of any John Deere sister matching the F20.
Good luck, Mark

always go for the cheapest fix first :)
We have OSHA certified ROPS specifically for the F20.

I was in contact with LMTC earlier today and will follow up re:ROPS via email
We'll be here. If you remind us when you order the ROPS, we'll send you the F20 parts book on CD for the cost of postage ($5)...otherwise we sell it for $20 + postage.

Your radiator overflow bottle is low on fluid, it has a sensor on the bottom of it. Thats why the light goes on and off intermitently.
LMTC can get you a roll bar faster than anyone & cheaper too.
I have one on my F yanmar, it folds in the middle, has a seat belt & it was easy to install.
