Hi all,

I came across a youtube site that has some footage of the engine I work on at Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion (WMSTR) at Rollag.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=vnhjS_GUWhQ&mode=related&search=

The video starts with a shot of one of our locomotives and then goes to a two cylinder steam engine. The Pabst Engine came from the Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee. Its governed speed is 125rpm. At the show we usually idle it around 25 - 28 rpm. At 125rpm with 150psi steam it produced 650 horsepower.

The next engine shown is a single cylinder horizontal engine that came from Minneapolis. At 72 rpm it produced 380 horsepower. This engine usually runs around 40 - 50 rpm during the show.

Both engines are Corliss valved engines. The Pabst was built by Allis Chalmers and the Villiuame Engine was built by the Twin City Iron works.

I don't know the person that took the video. They did choose good locations.

The train climbs a pretty good grade as it approached the camera person. The harder a steam engine pulls the more it "chuffs".

The "clicking" and "clunking" of the Pabst Engine comes from the trip mechanisms and the dashpots that make up the Corliss valves.

A similar "clicking" and much quieter "clunking" can be heard at the Villaume Engine.

Cool video Jerry! Thanks!

Only problem is that the "Rollag Fever" is starting to set in big time! This didn't help!

I am having the same problem. When is the next work weekend at Larson's?

I am having the same problem. When is the next work weekend at Larson's?

January 20th.

Not sure what we'll be doing, but the loader has to go back on the Cadillac, and the stack (lumber) mover needs more work. If the Lull engine is done, that has to go back in. I am sure there will be other things as well. I'll know more after tomorrow. (All day board meeting... Remember them?)
