New to site.
I just bought a 1601D, with a koyler loader, new box scraper and roto-tiller.
Tractor has 800 hours on hour meter. The only problem I have found is that the temp gauge and fuel gauge don't seem to work. Everything else seems to to be working great. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :bannana:

WELCOME clamper,
Your 1601D most likely has a bad fuse or connection. Sometimes a faulty sender but IMHO it is rare to have two go out at the same time. I suspect an electrical connection problem, bad ground or fuse. If you haven't discovered the fuse panel location it is behind and inside the cowl supports (between your left knee and ankle).
Did you purchase your tractor from a dealer? If so, they should fix or diagnose the problem and send you the necessary parts.
The YM1601D and YM1610D are probably the first, and best 3 cylinder models and Most Popular YM series models and the YM2000 2 cylinder first in it's class....I have both 16xx models and have replaced a water pump and wheel bearing (oh, and seals) and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble. I have put it through the ringer (with routine maintenance) and it hasn't skipped a beat in over three years....and it's coming up on 1800 hours. Rest assured that that model was a great choice and every single part is available that I know of.
Again, welcome to MTF and show us a picture of your Yanmar when you can.

:Welcome1: Clamper.
Nice to have another Yanmar owner on the forum. For models such as yours, Mark777 is the man with the knowledge.
Keep us informed on the gauge problem and give us a user report after you've gotten some seat time on your machine.

Happy New Year to everyone. And thanks for a great welcome.
I tried to troubleshoot my gauge problem today, I found the fuses were all O.K. Then I checked all connections, all good. Then I checked voltage at the gauges, voltage was present at both gauges. I suspect I have two bad gauges?? :duh:
Now where would I find a guage set??
As for where I got this rig, I bought it for $6000 form a private owner who bought it from a small dealer used it for a couple of months then sold it to me. I have used it for about 2hrs now, it does have 830 hours on it. So far the only problem I'm having is the gauges. Again thanks for a great welcome.

Clamper.....that's a new one on me, and frankly I'm stumped! I've never seen two gauges go bad at the same time...seldom one goes bad. It does sound as though you've tested the leads and the power is there, so you must be on the right track. Very interesting.
Since you may need to replace the instrument cluster you may as well pull the steering wheel, unplug all electrical connections, unbolt cowl and slowly lift the complete assembly off of the column. Once it's in your hands (or on a work bench) try a direct 12V jumper to the temp and gas gauge and see if the needles will jump.....if not then you will need to replace as you've already indicated.
The closest Yanmar dealer (and very knowledgeable fellow) will be Tractor Ernie in Oregon (Ernie's Imports) and I cant locate my contact info on Ernie.......but Mickey most likely has it handy, and you're so far north, he's not that far from you. Either a 1601 or 1610 gauge set will work as they're identical. It would be nice if you could bounce this problem off of Ernie too...as he may know of some obscure problem that is causing your panel to fail. Good luck and let us know if there is anything else we can help you (LOL or not help you) with. And keep us posted as I'm very curious as to the cause of your problem.
****edit**** There is a series of grounds from the cluster to the cowl bypassing the plastic housing....maybe you have a bad ground (??) it could be something as simple as that.

Mark,
Thanks for the suggestions, after I put it back together I thought about the ground. I should be able to look at it in the AM. Thanks again for all your help. :thanku:

Clamper, here is Ernies website. Great guy to work with. He has always done right by me. You shouldn't have any problem getting parts from him.
