My best suggestion would be to join a fitness center and get one of the trainers to help you get a program aligned with what best fits what your trying to achieve.
Last year, I decided I wanted to get back in shape. I was weighing too much and felt like crap. I joined a gym and got a trainer. She got me a good diet program and beats the heck out of me in the gym. She also has me doing 45 minutes of cardio exercise per day.
The results are I feel great, have lost over 60 lbs and am much stronger to boot. I am benchpressing more than I did in college and can run faster also!
I play softball and I absolutely crush the ball now. A year ago, I could only hit it to shallow outfield. I have 12 hrs in 14 games this summer!!
She is an absolute godsend.

Paul,
You may or may not already know this but it may help. A good rule of thumb is 30 min of cardio prior to your workout to get your heart rate up then strecthing before the actual workout. As far as weight training, to tone muscles use high reps and low weight, to gain muscle use low reps and high weight. PLus always use proper form and go for full contraction and extension to work the entire muscle. If you find you are starting to cheat, ie using your back to help start a curl, it's time to stop.

I would LOVE to have a PT, and go to a gym, unfortanly I have neather the time, or money. Wish I could, becouse I think it would realy help.
Bob,
Ya been reading up a bit, and getting some good info. I got noone to prove anything to, so I am starting out on the light side, and doing less weight, with more reps till I get a baceline, and learn all the correct forms.
Doing well. Only been a few weeks and I am seeing a HUGE improvement!! I am lucky in that I build mussel fast, so I always see results farly quickly

Gives us an idea of what equipment you have at home. Along with an idea of how much cardio you can also in put into a routine. That can be long walks, jogging, tread mill, etc...
Start off slow with the weights, keep you push and pull excersizes seperate and on different days...3 to 4 days will give you results, less than that probably wont ...
Diet needs to be factored in as well.....keep us posted be happy to help and get you going....

Right now all I have is freeweights and a simple bench. As for cardio I dont do enough. I do as much walking as I can, but want to do more. Hoping to get out for some bike riding.
