Hey Neil,

How is life treating you?

What's the lastest word on Cub's CUT line? Any more rumors of Cub and Yanmar getting hitched? I sure would like to see Yanmar behind Cub that would put them very high on the list for sure.

This would be very interesting to see how this rummor would play out if true.

Local Case/IH dealer is a long term Cub dealer and has a lighted sign saying they are a Yanmar dealer. Never seen anything Yanmar on their lot but just down the road the JD dealer has been stocking new Yanmar crawlers since late summer. JD dealer says Yanmar is seeking JD dealers to handle this line as it share drivetrain components with some of the Yanmar built JD's.

Would be Interesting indeed if Yanmar and Cub got together.

First my apologies for my absence......big doin's at Nassau Equipment ,which I'll get into in another thread...

I'm not one to spill any beans.....but consider.

MTD/Cub Cadet is a serious long term player in outdoor equipment. The Compact and Sub Compact Tractor market continues to grow and Cub will expand its presence. Yanmar was left standing at the altar by those guys in green and is looking to get married ....

Expect it to take about 9 months or more to produce any results.

LMAO JD! That's just funny, I don't care who ya are! :)

Neil,

No apolagies needed my friend! The rumours seem to all be pointing to Yanmar, should be an interesting year eh! :)

I know this is "old news" now......but this is one of the better articles.

This isn't just another private label program. These two companies are forming a third company that's a true partnership. Each will have personel and $$ invested. Note....each company is privately owned......and there lies the difference, Private firms don't have shareholders barking at them every quarter for profits. They invest in the long haul and new ideas. btw....Stihl is a 75 year old private company.

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Cub Cadet joins with Japanese firm
Joint venture to produce revamped garden tractor
Saturday, February 10, 2007
Frank Bentayou
Plain Dealer Reporter
In Northeast Ohio industry's latest nod toward global manufacturing, the all-American-sounding Cub Cadet brand garden tractor will become the Cub Cadet-Yanmar compact utility tractor starting in August.

That's when a new joint venture, C.U.T. Supply Co., based in Valley City, northwest of Medina, expects to unveil its 2008 diesel-powered compact tractors in outdoor power-equipment showrooms throughout the United States and Canada.

Cub Cadet's partner in the launch is Yanmar Co., a 95-year-old privately held diesel engine and equipment maker based in Osaka, Japan.

Executives in Ohio said Friday that the workhorse vehicle will combine features of American and Japanese technology, design and production. While details aren't certain, they expect assembly to take place at plants in the United States and Japan.

Matt Rechin, vice president of brand management at MTD Products Inc., Cub Cadet's owner, said the new small tractors will compete principally against Kubota, John Deere and Massey Ferguson equipment. He said the new model would feature "some unique styling and creature comforts to make long days sitting in the seat more comfortable and safer."

MTD, whose headquarters is in Valley City, also is the parent company of a range of other brands of outdoor power equipment, including Troy-Bilt, Yard-Man and McCulloch. C.U.T. Supply will share MTD's facilities.

Worldwide, MTD has some 6,700 employees, spokeswoman April Clark said. Yanmar has about 2,700 employees, most in Japan.

C.U.T. Supply referred to its planned tractors as "well-designed, high-performance products" with up to 50 horsepower. And Rechin said Yanmar's small diesels operate "with more horsepower and more torque than other engines, so they run more efficiently at lower RPMs."

C.U.T. plans a full array of attachments for the compact tractor, from backhoes to snow blowers, mowers to front-end loaders, said Nathan Walker, MTD's senior VP for sales.

The company has not firmly set prices for the work vehicles, but Walker suggested that models would be available for less than $20,000, more if equipped with various accessories.

"We've still got a lot to work out in terms of pricing and logistics," he said.

Rechin said MTD has discovered "one of the business benefits of having a partner in Asia; we literally do work 24 hours a day." It already distributes many of its products in Europe.

C.U.T. Supply named Yanmar's Masashi Shimo president of the new company.

neil,

Good luck and fortune selling these new tractors. I just hope, with all the renewed interest in this group of more "capable" machines (those that this offering seemingly complements) that prospetic customers have a vast network of other color implements that are available.

Heck yeah it's worth talking about. Nice that Cub Cadet has partnered up with a quality engine manufacturer to make something hopefully better than their current CUT products. I think that Deere may regret loosing their associaton with Yanmar, and Cub certainly looks to benifit from their new partnership.

Hard to tell from the brochure exactly what it looks like. The black and yellow kind of grows on me after a few looks. It will be interesting to see the specs and pricing in comparison to other competitors. Oh well, something to keep wishing about.

I think it is quite a good move by both companies. Cub has the reputation in the USA for quality and is a well known name, with an established dealer network, but a limited product line. Yanmar makes top tier equipment than many people have never heard of. Sounds like a real good match to me. Looking forward to seeing what the company(s) come up with.

Recently attended the introduction for Cub dealers.
One thing is obvious.......Yanmar and Cub Cadet are committed to this project. The people are in place, the plans are made, the product line is starting with the 32hP hydro with BIG plans for more......as far a s I could tell every dealer signed on.

:congrats:

Any more news on these new machines? Anyone buy one yet? With Deere cutting over 3000 dealerships, I see a possibility for Cub/Yanmar to grab some of these trained guys, put new signs outside and have a nice dealer distibution network in place fairly easy.

:omg: Just yesterday I saw a black ford f350 with NJ plates pulling a inclosed trailer. It had Cub Cadet and yanmar all over it. If it was not rush hour I would have followed it. He was about three miles from a Cub dealer. I wonder if he had the new SCUT inside to show it off.

One of the dealers in our county who has been carrying the Kioti and a couple of other imports is now an official Cub Cadet/Yanmar dealer.

I haven't stopped and looked at them yet, but they look very nice from the highway!

I've lamented for years some of the Cub Cadet decisions that have been made since my granddad's Cub (don't shoot me, it's just my opinion :hide:), so it's really great to see what they've done with the brand.
