I am looking to purchase a compact utility tractor (tractor, loader, backhoe) and have been trying to educate myself as to value and reliability of the many brands available. For example i thought that the little Cub Cadets were pretty cool until I read about Mitsubishi nightmares in this web site. So toady I am watching yet another Ebay auction and confess that I don't know about this brand of tractor. I am guessing that this is a secondary brand to Massey Ferguson? Vice versa? I am very interested in what others would think of this machine. I will use the machine to grade and terrace 2.5 rocky acres. I believe that this backhoe is pretty light duty and it is not evident that there is sub-frame attachment for it. I feel that at this price, however, I could buy an appropriate Woods BH6000 new and sell the Kelley for whatever i can get. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150055947682&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005

Oilbrnr...
Did the other tractors not pan out or meet your requirements? I remember two Yanmars, a Ford 1900 and the N Holland TC21D. Are you looking for something newer and with a little more beef?
Good luck on your TLB hunt.

LOL.. looking for the ultimate deal.... not in a hurry except the $ is burning a whole in my pocket. The more I can learn and the more tractors i look at the better my purchase will be. At least thats the idea! I really like the Yanmar187D for $13500. Nice size/price but know that the dealer is making good money on it and hopin to find something for private sale where i might do even better.

Have been to the Tractor Info site and it is pretty cool. But still does not seem to address the apparent kinship of AGCO and Massey. Looking in my Tractor Blue Book it seems that the 2003 model listed on Ebay has a MF sister. Both use an Iseki engine of identical displacement and have similar stats. Curious if this is the same tractor (MF-1433v 4WD).

I contacted Woods Equipment to find out about sub-frame compatability for the st35x and got the following reply:
We show compatibility of several ST series AGCO tractors but do have a mounting for the model ST35X. We show compatibility for the following model AGCO ST series tractors:
ST28A, ST33A, ST34A, ST41A, ST47A and ST52A
Let us know how we can be of assistance.
Anyone know if one of these tractors has the same chassis?
Agco Allis relationship to Massey,,,,, this is for the 40+ hp tractors but pretty well holds true through out.
Well since I am not at work so I don't have the dates, here goes;
Allis was Allis
White was White,
Massey was Massey,
Gleaner was Gleaner,
New Idea was New Idea,
Fiat was Fiat,
and some others.
So Allis buys White, Then Allis buys Fiat, Then Allis buys New Idea, Then Allis becomes AGCO, and sells Fiat back to Fiat (who buys Ford and changes the name to New Holland).
Then AGCO buys Massey,
So now we have AGCO Allis, AGCO White, AGCO Gleaner, AGCO New Idea,
and AGCO Massey,
Boy thats a lot and much of the difference is the engine and the Massey keeps the Ferguson pump for the 3 point.
So now AGCO combines AGCO ALLIS and AGCO White, and that becomes AGCO, but Massey stays Massey.
So the AGCO and the Massey are built in the same plant in Coventry England, But the engine are different, Massey stays with the Perkins engine, (because CAT owns Perkins, and AGCO is building the CAT Challenger), and Massey keeps the Ferguson pump for the 3 point.
I hope that clears thing up for you lol!!!

Oil,
My advice, no matter what brand of tractor you buy, be sure to have a service center or dealer close by,
No matter the brand, if you use it, you will break something. If you can not get the part or have to drive 100 miles each way, that takes a bit of the fun out of owning and using your tractor.
Local used equipment dealer said a guy came in that had bought one of the little china made tractors for $3500. He broke a rear axle casting, the part was $3000 and then it had to be installed. Guy junked his little tractor,
not much savings to that,
if you have the money, kubota, john deere, caseih, all have good products, if you have a local dealer.
good luck,
Remember: the cheapest tractor is not always the least expensive in the long run.
