So...
I've got a lead on what I think is a REALLY sweet deal on a couple of tractors.
The first one (the better deal of the 2) is a Ford 3000 diesel. I don't know the year, don't know the specific model.
Per the seller... it ran last year, but they had to pull start it (supposedly a dead battery). I know that the power steering cylinder is broken in half and it looks like the wiring harness has been replaced (without removing the old one), but that was really the only visibly evident things wrong with it (sure, it could use a good cleaning and some paint... maybe a new seat, but the rear tires were OK... fronts were a little thin, but fronts aren't too big of an expense).
The second one is a Long 460. Now, I know that this is the Ford forum, but... we've not got a Long forum and the Longs and Fords are REAL similar.
According to the seller there was a steering linkage "issue" that they fixed... but it appears to have a working power steering unit on it. It's diesel, too, but... supposedly has injector pump "issues". All 4 tires are up (again, the fronts are pretty thin, but the rears look decent). The seat's pretty torn up and there's some sheet metal damage (look kinda like it was run into a fence, or something).
Basically what I'm looking for is;
Ideas of what can be done with the injector pump. Can I rebuild it, or would I have to replace it (assuming the worst with it)? I've heard that the price of an injector pump is pretty prohibative... Would a shot injector pump (more or less) deem the Long "irrepairable"? I'm not really against parting it out, but I'd rather get it running and sell it (I even have a couple of potential buyers, already).
As to the Ford... I'm hoping that there wouldn't be too much wrong with it (outside of a battery, tune-up and maybe a starter) and perhaps I could keep it and use it.
The seller is asking $300 a piece for the 2.
He's also got a 7' brush hog in REALLY good shape that he's looking to get rid of (his story is that he paid ~$800 for it, 12-15 years ago and it's been used about that many times, since then).
I'm wondering about offering him $750 for the whole shooting match (he sounded almost "desperate" to get rid of them).
What do y'all think?
