I actually found a Simplicity 4040 and it's clone, an Allis Chalmers 616 for sale not too far from me. a two for one sale if you like :00000033: I was surprised to find that these were powered by air cooled Onan engines. Any problems that anyone knows about? I attached a pic of the Allis, the Simplicity is identical except for paint.

Joe The things I remember are the cost of Onan parts and the odd pto speed. There aren't many PTO driven attatchments that work with them. Also I seem to remember something about overheating.
Even with those cautions I'd still love to have one. They still bring a good dollar and are in high demand by collectors.
My advice is to join the Simple Tractors Club (www.simpletractors.com) and do some research in their archives if you haven't already. That's the absolute well of knowledge for Simplicity and Allis Chalmers garden tractors.

Hope that helps Joe.

Those are very desirable tractors. If price is not too steep I'd jump on them. Take the advise and check out simpletractors.com. Lots of good info on these machines their. These are the forerunners for the current Legacy and many people consider these as one of the best products Simplicity has made.

Joe,

As mentioned, check out SimpletrACtors. There are tons of info on there. Also, if you decided you don't need one of them, shoot me a PM.

Later,

Steve.
