Anyone have one of the Massey GC tractors? I have had a eye on them sence the first one came out. I belive it was a GC 2300 then, and have always liked them. So if anyone does, how do you like them, and have you had any problems, or would like to change something about them?

I bought a GC 2300 with turf tires and an mmm in 2004. Use it mainly for mowing and some plowing. Have about 175 hours on it and it has not given me any problems. The GC 2300 is set up as just the tractor

The GC 2310 is set up as a Tractor Loader and Backhoe, and come with the front end loader and backhoe already mounted. It usually comes with Ag tires also. From what I have heard about them on other forums, they are a great machine; you do not realize it is a sub-compact.:thThumbsU

I researched the GC 2300 when I bought my 2210 in the Fall of 2003. It appears to be a well-built machine. There weren't any dealers nearby that I was aware of back then, so I did not look any further into it. Would like to see some more owners chime in.

Chime, I baught a GC2300 last august and have been nothing but impressed. I have the mmm, snowblower, and 3pt sreader. It turns on a dime, does a good job mowing, and blows snow like nothing...even the last foot of wet stuff we just got a week ago. Yeah i could have just let it melt, but what fun is that?

I've owned a GC2310 TLB for about the last 3 years and it has been a great machine. I looked at the JD 2210 and the comparable Kubota model. Overall the Massey came out on top based on specs and price. I've been very pleased. I cant' tell you how handy the back-hoe is.

The primary issue I have now is that the dealer I bought it from right down the road has closed up and the nearest dealer is 45 miles away. There just aren't as many dealers around compared to the JD or the Kubota.

I do have a question for anyone who may be able to help.

I got the machine stuck in the muck pretty badly. I had to power wash it to get the mud out of the wheels and undercarriage. Since then, and this may be coincidental, but back-hoe works intermittently.

When it first stopped working, I checked fluid and had to add some. It began working. Then the afew days later it worked fine then I shut the tractor off and it wouldn't work. This seems to happen if I swing the boom all the way to one side. Afte that I can't bring the boom back to center. If I play with the stabilizer controls, they just drop to the ground. If it sits for a day or two it might work fine.

I used it for about 2 hours recently, turned it off and could not get it to work. I shut it off again for about 5 minutes and it worked fine. It seems very random.

My quick connect hoses are secure. I do have one hose on the cylinder that swings the boom that is leaking. None of the hoses are cut. The bucket has worked fine this whole time.

I called the service department of the nearest AGCO dealer and they had no answers.

Does any body have any ideas about what may be going on? I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Pshandle

Welcoem to MTF!!!

Sorrry, no help with your back hoe though. Is a lever binding, or sticking?? Just a thought.

Sounds like your hydraulic system has air in it. I'm not familiar w/MF's owners manuals but your manual may have the procedure for purging the air out of the hydraulic system. Sometimes when the oil is changed it can trap air in the circuit and like auto brakes, air is bad. So with this in mind
Kubota includes these instructions and it's fairly easy and I'd say MF does too.
You also indicated that you have a leaking hose on the BH circuit. This could be the source of your problems. Leaks are not good, not only do they loose that gold plated hydraulic oil but can also let air into the system.
Good luck

As Volfandt said air is bad. Repair or replace the leaking line safely then purge the system. Most likely Your problem is a roaming air bubble...It stops in a certain place and wont let that function work properly.

Ingersoll444 - welcome to the forum! :)
As for the GC2300 Series, we've sold a good number of them here and people like them enough to trade-up for new ones. It's not very often we see them sitting in the shop for more than the usual routine maintenace, so I'd say they are a pretty solid machine.

Pshandle & Masseybear,

Welcome to the forum! :Welcome1:

Paul, my wife's cousin has a 2310 and loves it. He's done some impressive projects with the backhoe. The big drawback in our state is that there is only one dealer. :)

3 years and 600 hours later on my 2310, I'm still happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best investment I've made in a long time. Wish list of changes is pretty short-- individual rear brakes on the left and the parking brake lock like the 2610. Buy one.
