Yanmar 186D

I'm going to look at a Yanmar 186D tonight.

It's got 1300 hours, new tires, runs great and comes with the Yanmar front loader. He's asking $5000 which seems high...but what do I know?

I've read it's an American (non-grey) model and has a power-shift trans. I plan on using the front loader a bunch, so I hope someone can confirm that the power-shift trans is good for changing speed and direction on the fly without clutching. I've passed on a bunch of gear-drives because I can't stand shifting/clutching all the time.

He says its in good condition, but I haven't seen it yet.

Anybody have any other info, good or bad, they'd like to provide?

How much HP does it got? Does the D in the numbers mean its a diesel?

It's an 18hp diesel, 9 forward speeds, 3 reverse.

The "D" means it has the 4wd option.

$5K for a 4WD Yanmar with a FEL and power shift is not out of line. You will definitely like the power shift with the loader. The shuttle works off of an independent pump (inside the transmission) so there is no loss in hydraulic pressure for the 3PH and FEL... and the gossip about the power-shift models being bullet proof is true. I have yet to see one fail.

Is the seller including any implements?? Would be nice to score a box blade or tiller if he throws it in on the deal.

Mark is the authority on this forum regarding Yanmars.

As for the power shift, the transmission design uses planatary gears like with automotive AT's but no auto shifting or fluid clutch. This all boils down to no gears to grind.

As for $5k, if it's in good condition doesn't sound too high. I paid maybe 80% more than that for my Yanmar but is a lot larger.

Oh yeah Mickey, Yours is much larger. You've got well over 1000#'s and 28 engine HP over the 186D. I know the YM186 2WD sold for nearly $7500. in '86, so when you start adding up options like 4WD, FEL etc. I'd guess it retailed in the high $8K's

I would NOT want to guess what you FX24D sold for new! Somewhere between Ouch!...and Holy Cow!

I went to look at it and it looked real good. He's had it since new and it's been parked in his garage when not in use.

It's not perfect, but it's pretty nice for the age and amount of usage. He's painted it, so it looks almost new at 20 feet.

He bought a brand new Kubota B3030 but says this "little" Yanmar will do more. I don't know if I believe that, but it was his opinion.

It doesn't come with any attachments except for the Yanmar loader.

Do either of you know if a ROPS is available and perhaps a cost?

I know of no retrofit ROPS for the YM186D.........(yet).

The ROPS for the sister-tractor, the YM1510D, which is not identical to the YM186D but the closest grey market model, is just under $700. These are OSHA approved kits that include folding ROPS, seatbelts, all necessary hardware and detailed instructions. All of the UTDA dealers now carry this manufacturers line and swear by it. My guess is the product fits both models....but I'd hate to suggest buying one and finding out altering or reengineering is necessary.

We sell the ROPS model for the YM1510 for $700 which includes shipping. The 1510 is the only model it is listed for by the engineering firm that designed and built it. More than that I do not know.
