When we bought our 23/54 Prestige, my wife asked for two things that would make her happy. A pair of leather gloves and a set of armrests like those found on the JD X-485-SE deluxe seat. The dealer saw the problem and threw them into the deal. I finally installed the arm rests and have found them to be usefull. I really hated to drill 6 holes but...

Simplicity part number 1686907.

They go on more or less like the instruction.

Kind of like the way the owner's manual stated that the 54" deck could be removed. Lots of steps not in the manual, like you can't get the chain links off the lift bar at any setting (low or high) without using a lever or brute strength (a hammer might work but I really hate to use one). Once the chain links are free you get to remove the forward attachment device because if you leave it on there is no way to get the deck out from under the tractor. Simple enough and the hardware is there for easy removal. Why is this not in the manual. Maybe the manual I have, which covers all models is not the right one? I went to the web site and downloaded the manual for my tractor part number, same as supplied. Time to remove the deck is 5 minutes so I can't complain too much.

No problem, I am a master of the work-around. Sort of.

nice.. i know what you mean about the manual missing steps.. i had to replace the mower belt and the instructions showed step by step.. except they did not mention i had to remove an extra spring to get the belt in place.. it indicated remove one spring but not the other.. i spent about 20 minutes trying to figure how, while following directions i could not get the belt on.. im goofy when it comes to mechanical stuff.. but no rocket scientist needed to see the belt could not go on as they indicated...

no big deal.. but it was a little frustrating..

BTW: the arm rests look nice...
