At one time for some unknowen reason dad bought a Allis B I think it was for mom to use in her garden which were always huge. I never did use it much but mom seem to a lot. Dad called it a 6 day tractor for it would never seem to start on a Sunday ROF pre owned by a preacher I guess.
He had a WC I got to use a lot. It had a two row monted corn picker that did a great job. We picked many an acre of corn with that one. We also had a WD just the plain WD with a wide front end and a front loader. I also got to use that one a lot, moved a lot of manure from the winter pile to the spreader. I seem to remember that it got around in the slick mud and deep snow farily well even with out tire chains.
Dad some how came to own a WD nf that had a 45 kit in it. I always wondered what a 45 kit really was? This tractor became the major tractor I would use for a very long time. I plowed a lot of ground with the snap cloulper 3 bottom plow. The most useless Allis dad ever allowed on the farm was a D14. It replaced the WD with the front loader. Dad would use it with a 2 bottom plow and get ran over by the WD and the 3 bottom plow. Seemed as if every time dad hit an alfafa root it started spinning. Manure couldn't be moved from the winter pile to the fields untill the month of July and August because that D14 just wouldn't go in wet slippery conditions. I think it could have been a good tractor but the tires and gearing seemed to be all wrong for it. On the other hand I now own a D 17 I really like and think of as a great tractor for it's time. Of course I am not trying to move piles of manure in April with it, nor am I trying to plow a hay field in May with it. I have moved a bunch of dirt with it during the monsoons of 2004 when we were building a new garden. It did the job very well.

There have been times I thought I was born ten years to late to have fully enjoyed my boy hood. I did when I look back on it gather a lot of great memiorys. Due to a close family on my dads side I got to drive a lot of different brands tractors & years. I also got to do the same with pick up trucks as well as stake trucks.
One uncle had John deeres of the letter series, Horriable tractor on the silo filler belt since they jumped around so much. Another had Cases SC & a DC much better than the VAC- U my dad owned at one time. That VAC-U had a habit of breaking rocker arms at the worst possiable time. Was to lite in the rear for any type of winter work. It shined baleing hay with the international T45 baler. That live power was the cats meow.
Another Uncle had Massey's till he retired and sold the farm in 1961. He lived in an area where the dealer was well thought of in the surrounding area.
Dad Had Massey's till he bought the bigger farm in an area where the massey dealer drove bussness away with his fowl mouth. That is when dad switched to Allises.
I grew up in a area where there was a Farmall dealer many miles from a town, had a great rep. and sold lots of tractors. The grain Elevator sold Coops till 1955 when it closed. There were Silver Kings, Olivers, N series Fords, Molines and JD's working different farms near us. IH's and Allises were the most common though.
Yes I have a few good memorys and storys of growing up on our farm. I still own the farm, haven't turned a farrow on it in over 20 years.

I have given thought to some day invite any one with a old tractor and plow to come work for the day. then different times thru out the summer have those days to mow, rake and bale hay, chop corn fill silo and pick corn. I know there are lots of us tractor nuts that own equipment we never use.

The best smells on earth are farm smells. Fresh plowed dirt, fresh mowed hay, golden rod honey being dehidrated, ROF fresh spread manure and ferminting corn silage to name a few.
Although a fresh sprayed skunk is awful heavy a couple of days latter I find the smell pleasent too.
Powdered and pampered women, make my eyes water and fits of sneezing along with coughing.
I vote for the farm smells every time.

Love to watch a furrow roll as nice as can be. See the baler suck the windrow in and the bales going up the wagon shute. To see the golden corn come off the stalks by the snapping rolls then falling in the wagon is a very nice sight.

Yup, I like the styling on the WD45, BigAllis, and it would be a good size to work on and keep under roof. For me anyways.

We had a 1953 WD with a 45 kit pulling 2 plows in red clay and it would plow a little faster than a 1961 D-17 pulling 3 plows in the same soil. We plowed an awful lot of ground over several years. We had to refill the D-17 with gas at lunch to be able to plow well into the evening. The 1953 with the wide front end was much more of a pleasure to use than a '51 nfe. Wasn't power steering wounderful when it came out? The first tractor we had power steering was a 1969 AC180.

my grampa has a WD-45 wide front, i've used it for spreadin manure, and he uses it everday for alot of odd jobs. my dad was born in 1950 and he remembers that wd-45 being the big tractor on the farm.
