I need a quick refresher on wiring 2- 12volt batteries to get 24volt.I'm thinking it's in series to double voltage and parrallel to double amperage? Answers to this are greatfully accepted!! :thanku: :thThumbsU

Yupper two 12 volt batteries in series will get you 24.

Thanks for the quick reply Wingnut! My son was working on the hog barn generator and thought the battery wires were improperly connected.I had told him being a deisel (air cooled 6cyl. duetz allis) it should be 24volt and sounded as though it was wired properly.I appreciate you backing up my memory so to speak as it has been a looong time since auto shop class, '83 actually!! :thanku: :fing32:

Suggest same brand and construction when wired in series.

:ditto: Very good advice...series or parallel...could save you lots of problems...and some batteries!

Could that cause the batteries to not hold up as near as long as they should?I was just made aware of a discharge (?) problem and am suspecting a voltage leak somewhere but mix and match batteries could provide an explanation.

Since your pulling the equal current through both, I would think they should at least be the same amp capacity. Also if one would get a shorted cell they both would probably go dead.

memmurphy,It hadn't even occured to me about a shorted cell in one bringing them both down. Thanks for the suggestion! :fing32:
