Hey Everyone,

I've just completed installing a new FEL on 1610D Yanmar, about 20HP. The loader was supplied with a twin control (2 spool) Sauer-Danfoss controller and I have a perplexing problem:

The loader came palletized with the hydraulics already hosed and fitted to the rams...2 lift rams and a single (big) curl ram. After installation, the FEL lift arms and curl work perfectly BUT in keeps trying to engage the 3 point lift arms in the rear. The system is completely full of fluid and I have cycled it several times to bleed out any air, also made small adjustments to the controller relief valve to see if it changed anything. Long story short---the two systems will not work independently from each other.

Early this morning I discovered that if I engage the draft control about 1", or just enough to put pressure on the 3 point but NOT lift the arms, then the FEL controls work perfectly and independently from the 3 point.

This is not a viable soultion. Try as I have to find the problem, I must admit that I am currently stumped! Any and all suggestions are gladly welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Regards, Mark

Mark, did you call the FEL manufacturer and ask them? It seems like they would have a good idea what to do.

Is your FEL plumbed into a power beyond kit that provides hyd. fluid to the FEL? I am kinda scratching my head on this one too but it sort of sounds like a check valve or some other similar valve in your power beyond kit or FEL installation is sticking open. I think Bob had a good answer and the manufacturer may have come across this problem before and most likely has a fix for it. Sorry I could not be more help!

I'll risk going way over my head here as I don't have a clue as how Yanmar plumbs their hydraulics with respect to the 3 point!!

A two spool gives Either And!

A three spool gives Either OR!

A power beyond four spool doesnt care what it does and all spools have to have a common return!

Thanks for the replys,

The way I plumed it to the tractor was suggested by a dealer who has installed a minimum of 50 on Yanmars. And his diagram and the one Koyker sent me are very similar as both show a section of the original steel pressure line removed (6") and two 90* fittings attaced and run up to two seperate pressure ports on the valve. In other words both suppliers recommended NOT using a "T" but two lines instead.

Now since there were no diagrams for the suction - or return line, I simply but carefully welded a "T" on the return line and connected to the "out" port on the valve. This application was suggested by the local hydraulics shop as I sat the whole valve assembly on his counter while purchasing a few fittings.

It was also suggested by Koyker and my supplier that the tap into the suction line is not necessary on a open center spool valve....So I carefully applied a restriction to the return line by using paint stir sticks and vice grips and gently squeezing the return line half closed.....It blew off instantly. So, now, I am thinking this must be a closed center controller???

Originally, I purchased the palletized unit from a grey market dealer, and discovered it's origin from an ISO9000 number stamped on the bottom of the loader arms. It was manufactured by Cowlitz tractors in Northen Oregon. I have talked to them in the past about the loader, but that was over a year ago.....and I have yet to contact them presently. I guess I better.

It's fixed. Re-did the in and out ports, blocked the suction return line installing a port plug and FEL works perfectly and independently from the 3 point lift arms.

Thanks for the suggestions.....each and everyone kept me thinking, but ultimately I ended up calling the manufacturer (Per Durwoods' sound advice) and they waltzed me through it.

Good deal Mark, glad you got it figured out. :fing32: Now we need to get you a yanmar avatar. Take a pic and shrink it down to fit.
