While on the last leg of my vacation...we had the opportunity to spend a day with John Deere Addict (Steve) and his lovely wife Judy. I was fortunate to get a tour of his wood shop, with the famous beer on tap and of his dad's tractor restoration shop where Steve is restoring his own historic John Deere.
We also took in the Antique Tractor Show in nearby Clarksville. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, it was hard to pull out of there and head for home. Here a few pictures of the great time we had.....

HA HA...that's a true tractor pull...that big John Deere was pulling those two around to flatten the road and entertain the people. He tried that with one of those steamers and it stopped him dead in his tracks. It looked like everyone was having a good time. I know I sure did.

Argee--that looks like a great time had by all...Those old shows are really a lot of fun....and to meet up w/ folks that you converse with a lot is a big bonus....I bet JDA's shop is amazing--I've looked closely @ the work he's done thru the pics he's posted...
Thanks for letting us know....

They had an old steamer on each side of that sawmill providing power for the saw. When the sawyer would tear into a 24" oak log those babies would start talking...it was a sight to behold...
As you stand there, you just let your senses take in the flavors of the mill.... the smell of the wood and coal burning......the sound of steam screaming from a relief valve....the whir of the saw cutting a slab off the log...the chatter of the men as they converse back and forth....your mind drifts back to a different era and time...and for that one moment...all is right with the world....man it was great!!

I know exactly whay you mean--I'm going to an annual "Field day of the Past", that they have here each September....same sights and sounds....the old steam -powered saw mill @ the event has part of the old sawmill that was originally here at my employment---that's how they got started back in the 30's---steam power, and mules to drag the logs......

Nice to know Steve is doing well, and glad you guys had a good time at the show Randy.
I sure wish we all lived closer together so we could all meet at one of these shows and get to know each other better.
This weekend is our show at Rollag, MN. If any of you find someway to make it there, be sure to look me up. If I am not near Jim B's 40 Avery, whoever is with the engine will know how to find me. Just ask. I will FOR SURE be doing the spark show with the whole crew on Friday night.
Look me up, and I'll give you a personal tour of the showgrounds, and I'll get you up on an engine.
FYI... the next weekend (Sept. 8-10) is Andover, SD (with the Avery), and Sept. 15-17 is in New Rockford, ND. Find the steam at the shows, and someone should know me.

It was indeed a fantastic day to spend with Argee and his wonderful bride, Mrs. Argee.
I am a member of this show and was hoping to take up the 1936 Silver King, and our John Deere unstyled "BR" as well as hoping my 1944 John Deere "B" would be done in time for this show. Things didn't work out to take up our old "iron" but will definately be ready for next years show.
As Argee alluded to, it is a great sense to be next to these old steam engines and they power they possess. They remind me of a big old dinosaur while they sit they idle and then start "barking" back while under power.
I took in the show on Friday and they were threshing wheat, baling straw, chopping corn....all with the use of the members tractors. There are also "hit and miss" engines pumping water, making homeade ice cream, grinding corn and wheat flour, etc.
It made for a wonderful day especially since you can tell by the last picture...the "Addict" was in the company of a couple of beautiful ladies! :fing32:
