I might take a ride myself, about a hour & 1/2 ride. I think I smell that BBQ chicken. Maybe stop at the dirt races at orange county also, maybe even visit Orange county choppers too! Anyone know if they give tours?

You got it Joe!!! Hap Degroat & his brother Roger have been regular fixtures at this and Otisville fair pulls for years. Hap & his wife also chair the garden tractor pulls at the fair. They have been friends of the family for as long as I can remember.

The OC races are Sat. night, so it would make a great weekend.
OC Choppers have a store on 17K in Montgomery, but do not give tours that I know of. IMHO, they got a little too big for their britches. I stopped in the store w/ my 10 year old to kill some time and see about getting a picture autographed. They wanted $25 for baseball hat and to get the picture autographed I would have to attend a scheduled session and pay $10 or $15 to boot. Needless to say, we took some pics of the bikes they had on display & walked out getting anything.

:bannana: Well, if you would be so good to say howdy to Hap and Roger for me it would be great. If not for health reasons I'd run up just to see them. And you might mention to that bearded galoot to stop by one day. I still live in the same place. :fing32:

Their parents farmed just up the road from me when I was a shorter fella.

Guess the last I saw any on them was Bill and Mrs DeGroat a couple years ago.

:00000060: ROF Happer and Roger both been know to flatten a fella for a miss placed pat on the back!! :tsk:

Roger bought my last welding truck.

But the entire family are old time folks, and been great knowing and being friends with them for all these years.

:bannana: It is good to see he keeps up with the wash and waxin on that old tractor ROF . It may have been Hap that taught me that rust was a color!! :sidelaugh

I see Chance placed in a few weights here at the Sussex County Fair pull. I think he's Rogers son, right?

Yeah, I always tried to stay on the good side of them.:hide:
Roger bought my last welding truck.
Was that the big old Ford that's the same color as Hap's tractor?
Chance is Roger's son. Roger, many years back had the first(I think) modified puller in the county. I don't know what frame or tranny he used but had a v-8 flathead. Thing was loud!!!:omg: He used to run it at Sussex Cty. Fair when they first had the pulls.

:thThumbsU For my $0.02, there is no finer sound than an old Ford flathead!!

Nope, was a blue '78 F-350 with a JoeJ custom flatbed. I even let my homemade boom go with it. THAT I regret :banghead3 .

But my day will be complete once ya tell them howdy for me :thThumbsU

Well, it was kind of iffy on the tractor pull on Sunday. Saturday night it was raining on and off from about 5 PM to midnight when I hit the sack for the night. Fireworks did get off in between raindrops around 9PM. Got up a little after 7 on Sunday the sun was shining but they were still calling for rain/t'storms all day. Although it was scheduled to start @ 9AM, due to late pullers and the relaxed nature of the day, they finally got the pull started about 9:45. The following are what I thought to be a good representation of the pre-1960 tractors on hand. From what I was told there were about 100 less pulls than last year, but that could have been due to the forecast, a pull up in Delaware County on Friday, etc. I got job of being "official" measure person, the kids were flagging start & stop & running results to officials.
Oh yeah, the chicken BBQ was great & welcome break in action. Nothing like BBQ chicken, baked tater, cole slaw, & ice cream to top it off.

2. Another A-C
3. Another Ford
4. JD A(?)
It was hard keeping track of some models (forgot to note as I took pics). I like all tractors but am not up on all models by just looking. If anyone wants to jump in with model, please do so.

1. Farmall (?)
2. JD 4010 - post 1960 but they let him pull even though it didn't count in the standings. Tractor brings back memories, as the first ride I ever had on a "big" tractor was on a 4020 sitting on those wide fenders at about 10 years old.
3. Tucker on Oliver 99
4. JD 720
Got a couple of videos, so as soon as I convert to wmv format I will post.
