Thanks in part to some time lurking here, I'm now the proud owner of a shiny new GR2100. I mowed the 1.5 acre hayfield that's supposed to be a lawn at our new home for the first time last night and can't believe how easily this machine did the job. The AWD system is just as amazing going DOWN steep slopes as coming up them. Can't wait to play in the snow with it this winter! And the Glide Steering or whatever they call it is pretty slick, too.

I've spent thousands of hours on many Cub Cadets in my life, but none of them come close to this. I spent way more than I planned to on a lawn tractor, but plan on having this one for at least 20 years. And watching my neighbor's head spin around when he heard a diesel lawnmower was priceless :omg:

A couple newbie questions:

What should the mulching kit cost for this, and are there any reputable websites that I should consider buying it from?

Other than checking fluids and general cleaning, is there anything I should be worried about before the 50-hour service?

My boys are 1 and 3 and already fighting for seat time. Am I a bad father if I don't want to share?

Thanks,
Cecil

PS: Two thumbs up to Emerich Sales in Charlton NY, they were a real pleasure to deal with. I tried speaking by phone with 2 other dealers (Northeastern NY) and they couldn't be bothered answering my questions, but Kevin at Emerich was very helpful and also offered the best deal.

:Welcome1: Cecil and congrats on the new ride, I can't help ya much on your questions, SIL has a Kubota diesel BX but I'm not sure about the service on it and stuff, he does it himself. Just wanted to say howdy and maybe if you get a chance sometime we would sure like to see some pics of that fine machine you got :fing32:

Cecil, congrats on the new machine-I own the GR's slightly bigger brother the G2160,and they're both great machines. As for maintenance items before the first service-make sure you grease the deck spindles really well. The dealers don't usually put anywhere near the correct amount of grease in them, and if you don't do it yourself-you'll likely have a premature failure of the spindle bearings. If you want a better cut-Kubota has a "high-lift" option that works great over the standard blades-esp for that grass that gets smashed down by the front wheels-it helps to pull it back up for cutting.
The only thing negative I've heard of on that machine was the rear wheel bushing/bearing-my dealer has had quite a few of them back in for service, but Kubota has supposedly solved the problem on the new machines.
Other than those few things-enjoy that diesel powered monster-I've yet to find anything that'll bog this beast down, and I've cut some thick stuff at my dad's and granddad's over the last few weeks with it. It also seems like it makes fuel-I'm so used to a gasoline powered machine that I'm stunned every time I pull the fuel fill cap off of it and see how little it uses.

Cecil-
Earlier 2100's were prone to transaxle failures. Keep an eye out for metal shavings collecting on the uptake tube screen. Check it before your warranty expires.
