I have picked up a 1951 Fergy the lift arms move freely after they have come down from the all the way up position. But when I engage the pto with the tractor running no matter where the lift control lever is set the arms lift all the way up. They then take 2 to 4 days to go all the way down with about 100lbs on the linkage. I drained the trans and flushed it with 20ltrs of diesel No change. The lift control lever does move the U shaped linkage at the back of the Hydraulic pump, I can see it throught he inspection port. But the pressure does not seem to get released from the lift arms. How far should the linkage move? I'm not sure. All your suggestion would be greatfully received. Also if I accidently hit the lift arms with a hammer the lift control lever jumps from the down position to nearly all the way up.??? :eck16:

If your lucky the cap screw on the lift arm is to tight.

If not it sound like you have a binding control valve, best bet is to buy a pump rebuild kit.
