Does anyone have any information on a loader sold for a 990 MTD tractor. I would like a copy of the manual and/or model information. Anything will help.

If you knew who made it for Sears/MTD you could order all the manuals from this site. Or any other implement for that matter.

Bruceman thanks for the information. I started building my loader and I have a problem with my lift frame shown in the picture of my tractor. It will not lift all the way up for storage without hitting the mounting from the loader. I wanted to get the information on how the loader is attached. I can modify the design but I wanted to see how the original was done. Here is the picture of my tractor. I will send other pictures as I complete the job.

I'm planning the same project for my MTD Farm King tractor so I'm interested in your problem When you said the lift frame hits the mounting from the loader, when attempting to remove for storage, are you referring to the the tower/reservoir were it detaches from the frame bracket?? Also you said your tractor is a model 990. It looks like mine but I can't read the serial/model#s

SAS On my design for the mounting bracket to the tractor frame the first design was not strong enough. I added a 4" square pipe tom replace the angle bracket. I needed a space for the lifting rod to pass thru for the 3ph. You can see the new design on the top of the first picture.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/blacksmith/Tractors/MountingBracketsoldnew.jpg

I found out that the lifting frame for the mower deck would hit the square pipe so I had to cut out a small piece in the corner and add a small bracket to close up the loop.

Sorry for the large pictures as I do not know how to make them smaller on the posting.

Blacksmithman, your FEL project is coming along great! Would you concider posting the measurments on your design?? I haven't started on my FEL as I'm still gathering info.
Have you concidered changing the forward/reverse lever for a foot pedal. With one hand steering and one on the valve spool...a foot pedal would come in handy. I'll take a look at my YS4500 foot pedal for some ideas. Also, I didn't see any diagonal support braces from your vertical columns to the front of your tractor?? SAS

SAS Here is a picture of the support sketched in. I have not made the supports todate.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/blacksmith/Tractors/TractorLoaderwithsupport.jpg

Here is a drawing of the dimensions of the loader. The loader will have 2" x 16"stroke cylinders with a relief valve setting the pressure at 550#. The cylinders are aluminum bodies tested at 750 PSI. I do not know the gpm of the pump but I used it for a log splitter with a 4" cylinder and it worked out fine. I will give it some thought about the foot control. Now I know why the control valves were on the left side of the picture from the cataloge.

Will do, Thanky :fing32:
I'm really likeing you rear stabilizer :fing32: :trink39:

ALSO....is your's like the CAD PLANS ones where the wheels get swapped front to rear?

SAS
11-01-2006, 03:11 PM
Joe- I never heard of the CADplans until after designing my backhoe. I had a picture of a small hoe that was built and used for a small mining outfit up north. 1/2 the size of mine. My hoe isn't towable. I use my utility trailer to haul it around. The back stabilizer is great. without wide spread stabilizers in the front, the rear stab anchored it quite well. No bucking when hard digging and no way to pull foreword with it in the ground. Of course swinging the boom hard over left or right was touchy. That's why I'm building the hd ones.
The hoes designed for 9 foot depth, dumps at 7.5 feet and without the front stab, can lift 1000#. SAS

Here is an update on my FEL project. I have made a new tie rod assembly because the old one would not be strong enought I thought with my FEL. The across bar is 5/8 diameter and new ball joints of 1/2-20 thread. I'm still waiting for my valve to arrive to continue working on the piping. I will also replace the drag links as they are not as strong as the replacement. I have had them come apart in the past. The drag link ends are also 1/2-20 thread.

I purchased some skid steer tires for my Dayton. Here are a few pictures of the tires just mounted. It took 3 men to install the last tire because it is very hard to stretch that bead around the rim when it is a 8 ply rated. The tire is Titan brand model HD2000 27 x 10.5 x 15. With only 10 lbs of air they can haul over 700 lbs. each I'm running 30 lbs. good enough for 1300 a tire way more than I will be using. These tires are heavy 47 lbs. with out rim. Thats 67 lbs. with a rim plus 50 lbs. for my wheel weights at 117 lbs. on a side that should help to keep the rear end down. My old terf style tires where still in good shape after 30 years of service. Maybe someone else will give them another 30 years. I will paint the rims and my wheel weights before mounting on the tractor.

I purchased my tires at Nabraska Tire on line for $55 each plus shipping. Here is the site. Go with the 10.5 width the actual width is about 9.5. They are Buffed tires (not meeting specks.) that have the name removed, since I am using them on my lawn tractor they are perfect for me. List price about $200 each. I could only buy locally the 8.5 tire at $130 plus tax. They were cheaper than buying new turfs locally.

Well all that work pays off when everything works great. I had one oil leak, just needed to tighten a fitting. I now have to make the bucket. Here are some pictures of the tractor. I measured 74" from the pivet point to ground at max up position. I have to make some straps to mount the tubing to the frame and a guard in front of the pump. I have started working on a foot lever instead of the hand one that is still on the tractor.

Wow! You're about to make a tractor out of that thing.

Have you beefed-up ( and I mean really beefed up ) the front end and steering? It looks like you'll be able grab a lot more load than that little guy can handle.

You go blacksmithman, Bruce~

This tractor is stronger than it may look. Here is a picture of the frame which is 3/16" thick "channel style" and the disc brakes. Remember this tractor was designed to handle a loader. I moved the rear tires all the way out to make the loader more stable.

I have increased the size of the tie rod as shown in the picture. The bearings in the front spindles have been changed. I had to make my own because the rim has only 3 bolts, but I may change them to 1" type from Northern Tools.

Here is some info on the loader in the picture at the beginning of this thread. I just bought a sears tractor and loader and the loader seems to be identical to the one in the picture. I believe it was built by quick-way. They were a popular loader and had different brackets to fit quite a few different brands of garden tractors. My loader has a sears part number of 100.26230 on it but I didn't find any info on it on the sears.com site. I haven't tracked down any sites with info or parts on it yet but will let you know if I find any.
Here is a picture of my sears with the loader. If you need any measurements of it let me know and I can help you out with that.

It looks like you have done a great job on your loader project ! They shure are a fun attachment to use. Keep up the good work!!
