I lost my key for my Yanmar FX255 so I removed the switch and took to a locksmith. He was able to make a key to fit, however now the tractor will not start at all. There is no power to anything. lights don't work, horn won't honk or anything. I replaced the battery, but no luck. I have verified with a multimeter that there is power coming into the switch. I have checked fuses that I could find and all are OK. I am not very good at electrical so any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, randy.

Welcome to MTF ranway!!!!

This sounds like a classic bad connection. Check all the conections to that switch, and make sure everything is hooked to the right spot.

:Welcome1: to MTF

Hope you know that Yanmar keys are universal. Lost mine once so went back to the dealer and he pick one up from a box and handed it to me.

Wondering if you have a real problem or this has something to do with the replacement key you had made.

Not home right now so can't check my tractor to see what has power with ket off. Will comment again later

Thanks Mickey. I did order one of those universal keys, but it did not fit my tractor. Would not even go in the hole, so I had to go the locksmith route. It seems to work fine, the ignition turns to all stops easily just nothing happens!

Thanks for the help guys. I found a section of wire going to the starter that was bad. It looked like it had been spliced in. Anyway once I replaced it, it fired right up!! It's good to be back in the seat!

Nice to hear you found the problem and have it corrected. I'm sure this is a load off your mind.

That great!!! I bet removing the switch movevd that wire around, and messed up the badly done splice.

Hey, Ernie, I'm still trying to find time to get over there. Tractor is still running like a champ.
