My Father in law has a 1979 16hp Farm King that needs a hydraulic pump. Does anyone know of any rebuilders, or a place to get a replacement pump? Its a Marshall-Matic pump.
Thanks!!! Mike

I assume you are talking about the small pump on the front of the transaxle. The transaxle still works but you can't raise the mower deck.
This happened to my 76 Farm King. I was not able to find a new pump or a repair kit. My solution was to by-pass it.
This fix will only work if you are able to do some fabricating....
You will need to mount a hydraulic pump along side the engine. This is driven by a "V" belt off the front of the engine. Disconnect the hydraulic hose from the pump to the valve. Connect this hose from the bad pump to the intake side of the new pump. ( This will feed the new pump and keep the old pump from running dry. ) Then connect a hydraulic hose from the pressure side of the new pump back to the valve.
I ran mine for a year like this without any problems. Than I made the tractor into a grader. The hydraulic line from the bad pump now runs thru a cooler and back into the transaxle. Even though the bad pump wont build pressure, it still moves fluid. The pump That I have on the side of the engine now has its own reserve tank.
..
Your best choice is if you can repair or replace the old pump. If not, than this is one way to get the tractor working again.

If you have any questions, you can email me at dot1ton@yahoo.com. It would be easier that way then going thru the forum. .. Ray
MTD the manufacturer of the Farm King tractor calls the hydro drive a Marshallmatic. However it is in fact a Eaton #11. The book for it is in the MTD library. If you are near anyone that repairs hydraulic motors and drives they may be able to get the pump for you. You might also try to contact Eaton through the internet after you look at the manual for the transmission.
Technically the pump is called a charge pump. It is utilized on the drive to eliminate the possibility for the hydro drive being starved for oil. Ray it sounds like your pump would work for the drive but not supply enough pressure to operate the hydraulics on the tractor. A new pump will produce from 500 to 750 psi, depending on the model.
