Freecycle is great, but so are the friendly folks that you meet at the transfer station......

Here's the wood panels I got through freecycle. 3/8" and 1/4" panels destined for closets, garage and barn.

On my last run to the transfer station with a trailer of just junk stuff, the truck that pulled in next to me had a bunch of 2" x 6" x 9' boards in the back. Hmmm! I inquired and found out someone had stored the boards in a way they got moldy on the surface and they couldn't be used for a customer's deck, so they were being tossed. I asked about the availability to acquire said boards, and was told...."I'll meet you outside the gate"! ROF ROF

So, after finishing my unload, I went out and the guys were waiting to help me load the 30 boards into the trailer. They are "manufactured" boards for decks and will make a great floor and porch area for my greenhouse. The guys saved about $35 in recycle fees to boot! A quick pressure wash, and color spotted, but really good as new...

They are heavy! No, the tires are not low on pressure...just straining under the weight of the boards.

Sometimes all it takes is a run through the planer and they are good as new.

These are manufactured boards, compressed sawdust and glue center, and I doubt my planer blades would be worth much after a few boards! :duh:

Your trailer is rated for relatively light duty. i was wondering how much payload capacity you have lost with your sides attached? Now I realize that you were not planning on getting these boards when you went there, so it was a surprise payload, but what is your trailer rated for? and how much do the sides weigh? I hope you didn't have to travel far with your tires overloaded like that.

OH! And don't run those manufactured boards through yopur planer! Not only will you trash your blades, but many manufactured boards have a surface coating that once removed by a planer would expose the core to moisture rendering them into junk once wet.

Joe,

The trailer is rated for 900lb load weight. Sides/front are just 3 sheets of 1/2" plywood and the floor is 1 sheet of 3/4" plywood. Use is just for light hauling and is usually just fine. Travel to the transfer station, pick up some stuff on freecycle, some bark...free wood....ROF ROF

Right on the surface...you can see the difference in the pic between it and the "main board body". They are made to only be cut, not "surfaced".
