On my Ford/NH the combination of tach and hour meter is called a proof-meter. It keeps a record of hours based on an average engine speed of 2000 rpm. Engine speeds below 2000 rpm accumulate engine hours at a slower rate than clock hours and vice versa for engine speeds above 2000 rpm.

Proof that your only showing working hrs to any degree of accuracy ??

Proof that your only showing working hrs to any degree of accuracy ??It's all relative I guess...If the meter speeds up at the higher RPM and your running above 2000 most the time then it would add to many hours. Conversely if your running constantly under 2000 it wouldn't show enough..I guess it evens itself out. I sure the engineer who invented it has a better explanation.

The only thing the engineers can do is give you reasons of need.. It takes a fabricator to put it into service..
