Hey guys, I need help making a decision.

I have a 11 acre plot that mow usually with a 4 ft bush hog that I have for my grey market e15 tractor. (18 HP)

I have 3 acres that is our home area that is shaped in a triangle and the other 8 branches off of that in 260' by 1380' rectangle.

I need to buy a mower that my wife can use while I am not around or on trips and she doesn't like my tractor much.

Here are my choices are, All of them are around the $1500 mark.
-- Buy a 5' finish mower for the tractor I have. (I would also have to get turf tires for my tractor then)

-- But a small riding mower with a wide cut for my wife to mow with
(3 acres would be a lot for one of these I think)

-- Buy a Pro mow Gang reel mower system. http://www.4apromow.com/models.html

I'm leaning towards the promow system for price and width of cut. Have any of you used these systems?

Would there be any other ideas you can give me, except to put astroturf down as grass all over. :fing32:

First off, I'd scrap the finish mower option since you say that your wife doesn't like your tractor much. And I know nothing about the gang reel mower that you posted a link to but if you'd still be pulling it behind your tractor, your wife still won't like it.

That leaves a small mower for $1,500. While I'd say that your budget is on the low side for that much area, it can be done IF your three acres are relatively smooth and flat with not many obstacles. It's heavy use for a small mower but do-able if you can get at least a 48" deck. I don't think you can get 54" at that price. Have you considered buying used? You'll get more tractor for your money that way.

Good luck to you.

I agree with that...your wife will get into some situation where she has to back up, and the gang mowers will make her hate you. I know your choices would be different from hers, but from her perspective, she wants a simple, easily handled machine...and that means a vanilla hydro tractor...with service at the beak and call...in case you get stuck in Tiajauna longer than expected with a irresistable little barmaid...

and as far as used, keep in mind most women like warranties and men to save them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I may have another option now. I went to town with her today and we talked about it on the way. I basically asked her the same things and we discused why she doesn't like the tractor because of the riding space it has.

So after that, we decided what we may do. She is going to stick it now, but soon she wants me to get a newer tractor. We looked at a Branson and a Massey ferguson today and she liked the Branson. I am taking her to look at the sub compacts that have the midmount mower next. I figure we will end up with a bx kubota with a loader on it.

That way we have the best of both worlds. Then later, I will get the gang reel mower and use it myself and cut 60 passes down to 20 on my hinomoto.

Thanks for the advice, it came in handy.
