hi, i found this site just messing around. learned more in last couple days than in last couple months.
background...not very mechanical, but blessed with mechanics for friends. have relatively flat, sandy, unmanicured yard. 3 to 3.5 acres,no real obstacles. own cub cadet, bought used(no idea of age, no manuals) bought cheap. model on plate is 143-714-100. has kubota diesel, hydro, power steering and lift for 60" industrial looking deck. ugly, but 800 hours and runs like a champ. if all cubs are close to this one, i'm sold for life.
can someone tell me anything else about mower? pros, cons, possible age, etc?
thanks alot.

Welcome Moose,

Follow this link MTD Owners Manual Lookup (http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/public/list.jsp)

Plus in your Serial Number (should be located on the frame below the engine
on the right hand side of the machine (may be on the left). Once you plug in
the serial number you will know the model of the tractor and have manuals
available to you.

I wasn't aware Cub made a tractor powered by Kubota but I am no expert
on the history either. I know they use Mitsubishi, Daedong, Caterpillar, Kawasaki
and Kohler in more recent years.

Post some photos of the tractor when you get a chance! We love to see pics!

:Welcome1:

*edit*

I found this on an ebay auction:

"I have up for bids a I H CUB CADET " KUBOTA DIESEL ENGINE WORKSHOP MANUAL. It contains 36 pages of pictures and valuable information for the diesel engines. It covers the Z400-B, Z430-B, D600-B, D640-B engines. This is not an original. Buyer to pay $3.15 for handling and shipping. Seller is not responsible for damage or lost items during shiopping. thanks for looking. "

Moose,

I posted that link to ebay because it reference engine numbers that's the reason I
posted it, and to say that yep looks like Cub used Kubota engines at one time.

That was Cub's Super garden tractor made right at the end of IH's ownership, before MTD took over in the early 1980s. They are a great machine!

Don't forget to wear your Cub hat when you mow.
