View Full Version : First oil/filter change

was performed yesterday. I knew I was in for a clean-up chore with the plug so far inside the frame. Prepped the area for the deluge, but not well enough. Not much room in there. While the oil was draining I went to town with the plug and sized/bought an extension tube and cap. Threads taped and tube cap torqued tight. Should be a lot cleaner job next time!

Maybe the pictures will show up this time...

Then again, maybe not. They were okay though.

Guess I will give up on posting pics until I get this site to load completely (no buttons, just red exes).

Wife hates dandelions and they are growing all of the time right now. Country yard means more seat time for me. Flat out, when I can cutting those pesky stalks.

I've posted pics here before but thanks for the info :banghead3 .

If you're saying that this site isn't loading and that you are getting RED Xs when it comes up, don't use "Favorites" to bring it up. Start from scratch and type in www.mytractorforum.com There was a problem with this a week or so ago. See "Red Xs in the "Site Questions" section of this forum. Seems to have had something to do with the old (original) address of the forum when it was new.

When I work on USN salvage vessels, the man to see when you have a question is either the Chief of the boat or the Master Diver. Those guys know the ship. The red exes are gone.

We are dial-up and it really limits what I read. Thanks for the info.

Does anybody need to see a picture of the extension tube set-up. Simple and it's what I have always done when in this type of situation.

Trailered the Prestige over to my inlaws 15 acre yard and spent 4.75 hours mowing. Some runs are 1200' long and cruise control is a must. Back areas were over 1 foot deep but no problem.

BIL/SIL might buy this place and as they are city folks I think he will be in for a real shock when he mows. A 60" deck will only save 0.5 hours but a Legacy/CC 5000, JD X series or a Toro 522i will be better built for this yard.

A ZTR is not really an option as we get over 200" of snow a year. The drive is flat and 4WD is not required as it really lowers the turning radius for mowing.

I looked at the drain plug as shown in my owners manual for my 04 Broadmoor(18 Horse Vanguard) and thought you've got to be kidding! Almost no room, for even putting a small wrench on the plug! I looked around the engine for a possible second plug and saw a hose on the right side(drive pedal, brake side) on the bottom of the engine with a bolt screwed into the end of a hose which was tucked into an opening in the frame.Taking the bolt off and draining the oil into a gallon jug was the easiest oil change I've ever done!

The oil filter mounted on an angle however, spilled oil on the frame and deck somewhat missing the drainpan I put below it.Next oil change I will take a small empty plastic butter tub and bend it around the engine under the filter to catch the oil.

Yeah Welcome 97XBAM!! I wish my GT5000 was that easy..It has a drain tube on it but you can hardly get hold of it to twist it.

Great looking place, Fouracres. Was that mowed with your Prestige?

fouracres,

Nice looking spread! The only pic posting differences are: GW likes the "Tag" link, while this site likes the "Img".

Cheers

I found that rubber tube hidden away the day after I started this post. Seems like they would put this in the Koehler manual or is this a Simplicity add-on and not published anywhere? Well, i've got both port and starboard covered now.

Yes, mowed with the Prestige. The Honda is at the in-laws for heavy duty. Wish it was here as it would have saved me getting the wife to pull the Prestige out of the creek last week. Always trying to get more grass to mow. Four-wheel drive is what I should have been using but it is always kind of neat to drive the JEEP around the yard!

The woods were no problem for the Prestige although I find that just when all is well, I hit my head on another obstacle, have to trim more branches in the woods for the higher Prestige. Closeline post was a real treat of a head banger.

I have not been home 30 days and I am at 29.8 hours.

Fouracres, like 97xbam said, there should be a hose and fitting on the other side of your engine. Makes things a whole lot easier.

I guess I knew where to look since I had a 12.5 HP Vanguard V-twin on my 1990 LTH. I noticed this right away when i was checking out the Conquest at the dealers . First thought was , great idea, right up there with plastic ketchup bottles. LOL
