Sorry to have to be asking this, but I would like to be sure of the correct oil weight to put in my troy bilt, 18 hp, 2 years old. I wasn't able to stop at Lowe's this am, even though I was driving right past it. I know I have an extra filter here someplace. I'm thinking 30 wt, HD. thanks in advance. oslo aka Paul

While I am waiting for an answer I am going to grease the tractor. I have heard that you should only put 3 pumps from the grease gun in the spindles. I grease twice a year, maybe 50 hours per year. I've been told that too many pumps will pop the seals or bearings. This was told to me about a 20 year old Bolens tractor. that's why they put the fittings underneath now. Is this an old wive's tale?

oslo. i run 30w in all of my equipment. i was told its best because it always stays the same grade. i work all of this stuff hard and have never had a problem.

as far as grease IMHO a couple of small pumps is fine. you dont want it so grease comes out the ends as it attracts dirt etc...

as far as the grease gun you want to pump just enough out so it will push any dirt away from the spindles, then wipe off excess.
