Hey Guys
I changed the oil, filter and tenp.sending unit,Rad.cap and flushed radiator.
I read on here and by Mark777 that the oil capacity was 4.79qts. and the water was about 1.5 gals but I put in 1gal. of Rotello 15/40 and was about 3/4 qt.over full :omg: Also put in 1gal of 30/70 mix and was full, How could this be? It has no thermastat so water pump circulates mix instantly,Right? It's not getting hot :fing32: and the oil I'm totally confused about:confused: Suggestions anyone? Mark777 Where are You!! :thanku:

You probably already had coolant in the block. As for the oil, did you change the filter as well? Regardless I wouldn't worry too much as long as the levels are to the 'full' mark.

I'd pull the filter and drain it. Then replace, start engine, kill and check oil level. Do again if needed. You could always pull drain plug and try to get it back before loosing to much.

Splicer: I did change filter as stated above and poured about 1/2qt of oil thru with plug out till I saw new clean oil coming out!
Cleatusj: I did exactact that when I changed oil & filter- are you saying I should do it again? :fing20:

Oh! Splicer I was refering too just the radiator as holding 1.5gal per Mark777.
This rad.doesn't have a drain plug so I pulled bottom hose at rad. and let it drain till it stopped! thought it would be more then 1 gal. :1221:

Mike

The YM1601 takes 3.6 quarts of oil with filter and 4.1 quarts of coolant mix...I don't recall saying anything else, but if I did, it must have been a senior moment :duh:. I would not run your Yanmar with too much oil in the crank case, as even under the full mark is better than over filling. It can (and will) weep oil into the cylinders, dilute with fuel, run rough and smoke.

Your right about no thermostat...the coolant circulates instantly when the engine starts.

Actually I don't think it was you that said How Much oil it held,It was someone on TBN,and you never specified how much water when we talked before you just said alittle more then a gal. So it looks like I'm All Good :bannana: :thanku: Guys!

Mark777: I did remove down to full mark before running. :fing32:

Great...this must mean you've decided to run a recovery system for the radiator?? Did you have to fabricate your mounting brackets, and how is your tractor running?

No Actually Hoyes found me one for about $10 :congrats:
But the little bottle doesn't mount right so he sent me a 4" hose Clamp f/$10 :omg:
Also Mark Why would the new sending unit bulb be only .5 ins. from threads when old bulb was about 1.5 ins.long? Huh! Huh! :D

Can you tell me what to do about the lube leaking out of the front right wheel, right behind the hub that tire bolts to,it's runnig all down wheel & tire?
:thanku:

I'd bet your old sending unit is for a YM226 (too long) or YM 2000 grey market tractor. The further it threads into the water pump the more accurate your temperature reading will be..

Bad seal...is your 1601 a "D" model (4X4)?

Yea! Mark it's a 1601D 4x4

BTW Mark after I spent $97 at Hoyes I found that the bottom radiator hose was leaking when it warmed up. :fing20: :banghead3 Oh! well it didn't hurt to add Recovery Bottle, sending unit and New rad.cap. Plus I bought A couple extra tubes for each tire as we have those trees with 3" throne on them round here! :fing20:

Mark777 if you look at Hoyes 1510D online diagram, where is it and what do I order? Please! :D

One more ? Please : I found a Yanmar 1500 w/Bulldog 85 loader today that looks in great shape, here in Cut & shoot but the guy wants $5900 :omg: Don't you think that's at least$400-$500 or more to high for a 2 wheel drive?

Mike,

Your axle is bigger, newer and a better design than the diagram of the 1510. It is the outer most seal, but I wouldn't order it until you have it apart, because you may need the large knuckle seal and you want to check your wheel bearings for wear too. You gotta figure these tractors are tough as nails and last a very long time, but you also have to consider it's been 25+ years since anyone has been in there (factory).

The crown nut and two shim washers on top, and four bolts on the bottom of the knuckle assembly and it should drop out in your hand (ok sometimes you have to hit it with a large hammer and drift punch)...then the seal and bearing are easily accessible.
