My Son Seems To Be Having Difficulty Changing The Front Wheel Bearing On His Yanmar Ym1500. Chris Is A Mechanic And May Be Overlooking The Obvious. Any Suggestions Would Be Welcomed.

Hi Sam...and WELCOME TO MTF!

The YM1500 front axle is fairly simple, and sometimes very stubborn. Your son should see the obvious crown nut and a few shims at the top of the spindle. After removing those, and the drag link-steering link assembly, depending what side he's doing, the spindle with hub can be removed from the bottom of the axle.

Sometimes they fall right out...but normally they need some friendly persuation (hammer). It is easier to work the hub and spindle in a large vice. Seldom, (but once in awhile) do you need heat. Usually the tractors operate with both axles totally submerged in the rice paddies in Japan and are often packed with fine silt and need seals and bearings...so it's very common to do FWD's and 2X2's about once every 20+ years.

Unfortunately I don't have a diagram or I'd post it. If you need any other information just give a shout...and if you do need a front axle diagram, I know where I can direct you to access this at another site. Also, if your son needs genuine Yanmar parts for grey's or a manual, I don't stock them but could direct you to the nearest fair, and honest supplier...

Good Luck - Hope to see you post a followup and don't be a stranger

Sometimes the parts diagram can be oh so helpful, and while some are available online a few places, not all are....and there's really no good reason not to have the book/file. We provide every tractor customer with one. We sell a CD with it in pdf form for $20...you can print what pages you want. Admittedly, some of the pages get a wee bit fuzzy, as sometimes they were scanning copies of copies, but they still tend to be very helpful. I think we have 60 some different ones. Also very nice when you order parts (we will be much more pleasant on the phone :>) if you have the part number rather than trying to describe the obscure part you need...and it significantly reduces the chance for ordering the wrong part which is good for you and us.
