I'm finding that I need to move my utility trailer around on a frequent basis and was looking at rigging up a trailer ball that mounts to a steel plate and "quick" bolts to my front loader bucket. It seems that my 3-point hitch is occupied most of the time so putting a ball on the draw bar is out of the question. There's usually not enough room or time to mess with using the truck to move the trailer. I have used the safety chains on the trailer and hooked them to the bucket but dang near punched out my headlights when it almost got away from me one day. I thought I'd check and see if anybody has improvised such a thing or perhaps has a better idea.

You can do a search using the tool bar at the top of the page for "ball hitches" and it will turn up several threads showing different ideas. Here's one for example : http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=17693&highlight=ball+hitch

:goodl: and I'm sure you'll get some good ideas here :fing32:

I appreciate the tip there Jim_WV and I'll be sure to do that (search) next time before I post a question. Now that I've searched through all the "hitch" related posts I couldn't find anything relevant to what I'm looking for... so I would like to keep my original question in force... if anyone has rigged up a front loader bucket "quick ball hitch". Shoot, I may just go ahead and be a regular Thomas Edison and rig one up.

How about putting a plate ball mount on the top lip of the bucket. Tilt the bucket completely down to dump and hitch your trailer. When not in use It's out of the way and doesn't need to be removed either. Just a suggestion.

One neat advantage to having the ball on the front of your tractor, is the way you can wiggle that trailer into the darndest places!!! :thThumbsU

Here's a couple links.

If you want to build your own, get some 2 1/2" heavy wall sq. tube to use that hitch from your truck.

I am a huge fan of Paynes Forks products.

http://www.paynesforks.com

Check out this trailer moving tool from them...
http://www.paynesforks.com/clampontrailerhitch.asp

The above trailer mover looks like you can just hook it up under the hitch to lift and move.
This is their actual receiver hitch
http://www.paynesforks.com/hitchrecv.asp

Northern tool carries paynes or you can order directly from them.

I see that the last post was in 2007 but...if you are or anyone else is still looking these look pretty hefty. At this time they are made in Belmont, NH.
