I am hoping someone knows where to buy affordable voltage regulars for the older style starter/generators. I need one with terminal tabs for a generator light, load, battery, field and armature connections, etc... I bought a couple on Ebay but they have no instructions and are too big to fit where they need to be mounted. One had terminals labeled f, 2, 3, 4.

Part numbers might also help as I have none that I need.

How much does Delco want for one of them new?

I have a 1976 MTD that uses a generator/starter setup too. Thought mine was bad last spring, but was able to fix it. Problem was a wrong connection. Thinking that maybe would see if can get a Chrysler voltage regulator to work on it. Have to check and see if field current for generator and alternator are close so don't have to worry about overloading the regulator. In theory it should work.

Have to do some rewiring of the lights. They probably are on a separate terminal. Should be able to connect it to the ignition switch, or just run wire from light switch to battery through a fuse.

Hi Carl, I don't know how much they want for them. I dont have a part number. I think other regulators should be able to work too. The wiring diagram I have shows 5 points of contact on the voltage regulator.

1. Field
2. Battery (wire that goes to battery and is also fused between these two points)
3. Load (which provides 12 volts straight to the ignition switch)
4. Armature
5. Gen light

I'm told certain old auto regulators will work, but I can't remember which models. I'll ask the town electrical guru. He'll know. He rebuilds all types starters, generators, alternators, & these Delco starter/generators.

Hello Carl,

I know that I have seen a voltage regulator of the same type at Farm and Fleet. I remember coming across it when I was having trouble with the one I have on my 644 but got one from my brother who had an almost new one from a '63 Ford he was restoring. It wasn't too expensive from what I remeber.

Case765, If you click on the guy carrying the load of books at the top of the MTF home page it will take you to the reference library. At the bottom of the page is access to a Delco Remy Reference Manual. It might be helpful to you. Lots of tips for figuring out what is wrong with it
