Well after finly fixing my stalling problem on my Ingersoll224, I was out mowing the yard yesterday. About halfway through the motor starts reving through the roof!! I'm like, "What the hecks going on?". Did not respond to throttle or anything. Well, I pop open the hood, and find this....

As you can see, the throttle shaft is snapped right off. I guess 1600 hours is a long time for a Kohler single. It had been sloppy, but never expeded this. Well, luckly I had another carb, from my torn apart 444 to put on. It was a bit diferent, so I had to fab up a peice of linkedge to make it work, but other then that its good to go. Oh, well I did have to rebuild it. It was real crudded up. I missed something, becouse it's still surging a bit, but she runs. Looks like I am on the serch for a new carb for the 444 now.

You must have reacted very quickly. Otherwise we would be looking at pictures of a snapped rod too.

Ya, and you shuld have heard the backfire that badboy put out!!!!!!

One thing is it look like it ate one of the throttle blade screws. Cant find it, but all seems well, so I guess it spit it back out.

How fast can they spin?? My guess would be around 5,000 RPM. Had a little Reo engine on a cart many years ago. I ran it without the governor hooked up. From the cart speed and gear ratio it would turn about 4,200 RPM while pulling the cart at 30 mph. It had a smaller carb for the cubes than your Kohler has.

Nope, but you know, I got a lot done this week though. Got some small stuff to do to the tractor now that its running, but nice to know I can just jump on it and go.

Well, just an update.

Shes still running, and the serging is getting better, and better. I am guessing the gas running through is working on the crud that was in there[it was REAL bad] and starting to soften/clean it up. Motor is still running well, so I imange it coughed out that screw in its fury when the shaft snapped. So looks like we are set. If it does not clear up, any more, I will probably drop the bowl and try to clean it a little more, but for now, I have a running, relyable mower. now I just need to get a carm for my 444 to replace the one I put on this tractor. :D
