:Welcome1:

Some people use Dexron III automatic tranny fluid, some use Multi G 134. You can get the Multi from a New Holland dealer.

And if you want to change the tranny filter, here's some part numbers for you:

NAPA FIL1307
Fleetguard LF3400
Wix 51307

Those numbers are for the spin-on trans filter that the earlier Fords had. The later in-line filters are available, but only from a New Holland dealer. ($$$)

Do you have a model number for your tractor? It should be located on the right side of the frame, down by the front wheel.

couldnt find model # on frame Did see serial# 09jc3335 9402 below front seat.Maybe somewhere else? It dose have a line filter with a Jacobson#121675 on it.Bummer! Are one of the Trans fluids better than other do you think. Those are good looking tractors under your name are they yours. LGTs? What year? the one I have dosnt have side panels . THANKS for your help..... Roy..... :trink40:

Hi Roy, the 09jc3335 is the model number, it's a '72-'76 model. Mine are the later models, made from '77-'83 w/side panels. They are both 1980 models. You can narrow down the year of yours by dating the Kohler engine. Use the numbers off the shroud and go to http://members.aol.com/pullingtractor/kohlcub.htm That'll tell you when the engine was built.

The inline filter is around $37 from a New Holland dealer. There are some people who have retrofitted a spin-on filter, but since it's not something that needs replacing very often I'll stick to the inline.

I use the Dexron III since it's cheaper and the spec is the same as what was called for back when these were built. I might switch to the Multi though since I work the 165 pretty hard and don't want to hurt it.

Just an update on the cost of the inline filter. I just got one from my local New Holland dealer. Since this was originally posted a year ago or so, the price has doubled to about $80 from New Holland and only a few dollars less from Messick's online. :omg:

If I ever need to change it again, I'll be converting over to the spin-on.
