Ingersoll 222 Id #

Went to pick up the tractor yesterday, was worth the drive. I should be able to get some picks this afternoon.
My expectations were maybe a little high but overall im very pleased so far. Without really spending to much time i can see i will have to spend some time sorting things out.
Couple of things i noticed:
Parking brake lever knob must have fell off because the lever fell back though the slot and now has bent the cowl panel.
Mower deck doesnt seem adjusted right. Only can lift it maybe half way. Im guessing it was put on a lower setting.
Tractor was near a fire and some minor things are melted.

I read the pin # number below the steering wheel in order to find out what year it is and the number doesnt really add up with the charts ive seen. #4092050. I also looked at an online manual for a 222 that had some pin number info that said that the 222 pin number starts with 1409090 and up.
The 220 has a pin number starting at 14091130 and up.
Maybe my engine hood has been changed? There is a chart avail online that should tell me the yr. of the tractor but i cant find the matching number there.
The engine cover says 301as and 12 hp.
What do you guys think?

Here are the pics fresh off the trailer. While playing with my new toy ive found that it only works in one of the ranges. Im not sure what range but im guessing high range. Im going to have do do quite a bit of work to get this thing functional.

It don't look bad for what you paid. Some work and you will have a great tractor. But like the others said change the fluids first thing.

OK, First that PIN number should start with a 1. Maybe its just a miss stamp. As for the speed ranges...

That little pin that the lever fits over is nutrel. You pull the lever up for low, and down for high. [hmm I think thats it anyway:D] It is hard to change ranges sometimes though. What you have to do is move the travel lever[on the dash the one you normaly use] a little to get the gears spinning a bit, then you can change ranges. You need to play around a little bit. You get the knack after a wile.

Deck lift....
Thats probably right. They dont lift that high. My small wheeler wont lift the deck wheels off the ground. BTW the corect setting for cutting is the lift pin[the peace on the triangel plate that the lift links attach to] should be halfway in the lift link slot.

The parking break....

No knob. Something must be broken. Its just a bar with noches in it.

Motor sounds right. A 222 should be a 12hp.

That cover thats bent. That just unbolts. It is a access cover, and also holds the voltege reg. The parking break rod does not poke through it. To the lower left of that cover, you will see a little slot. Thats where thet lever goes. And thats it. No knob or anything. The lever is held down by those teeth catching on the bottom of the slot. It is spring loaded so it releses when you push the break. Just pop that cover off, and pound it flat.

I really like how simple this tractor was designed. I guess the thing that im most impressed about is how quiet the motor is compared to the briggs in my almost new sabre.

Realy??? You know, probably the only thing I DON'T like about mine is how LOUD they are. Your Sabre must be TERRABLE!!!! :D

My sabre is a 02 1642, 16 hp briggs intek. Great lawnmower but kinda a throwaway.
