Joe,

I bought my Troy-Built back in the 70's when they were still built by Garden Way. We went up to Troy to pick it up and even got a mini tour of the plant.
Back then you received a real nice manuel/gardening book with the machine.

Mine is the 6 hp horse model. Was going to horse trade it off to a friend, but thinking now to re-do the machine and just hold on to it. If for nothing else, just the work it HAS done for us around here.

To be very honest, I feel it is about the only thing I ever bought that did all it was billed to do :fing02: and then some :fing02: .

I bought my Horse model around 1980 with a 7 HO Kohler engine. I was operating a small lawn maintenance and garden tilling business at the time. That tiller cost me just under $800 with freight and earned me thousands over the next 10 years. I still own it and other than tines, it's needed one carb rebuild, and 2 drive belts. I had a local shop upgrade the "gearshift" to the new heavier duty one around 1986, but not because anything was broken. The way GardenWay supported the machines and the owners was outstanding, it's a shame that they didn't stay in business. The MTD Horse models seem to be as good as the "old days". I really can't give an educated opinion on the little tillers made today, since I never used the old ones or the new ones.

I have a Horse with a 8HP pro and it was bought new in 1983.It has never needed any parts and to this day starts on the first or second pull.It was used heavily for the first 5 years or more.Has always performed just as advertised.Great Product and ashame what happened to Gardenway.
