This appears to be an unusual bidding going on. So far no bids yet. Might make a decent work tractor for someone. I would be interested but it is just too far for me. Might be kinda kewl to have a 510.7 cubic inch diesel V-8 under the hood! :fing32: Haven't heard that much about these engines. You have any experience with or know about these Massey V-8 engines Parts? For $2500 it may be worth the trip.

This comment is from Kirk Conway of the massey board.

I love Massey V8,s,
anmd I wish there were more people that felt as
I do,
I saw my 1st one at the Tulare farm show in Calif
in 1977,
I fell in love with the Idea that a farm tractor
had a sweet sounding V8 diesel in it, and not the old standard Inline six, with,or without a turbocharger,
I was around John deere,s and Case,s,and IH,s all the time,
and didnt get exposed to Massey,s until I saw a
2745 V8 for sale close to where I live,
I saw this thing, and noticed right off the
expanse of glass in the cab,and also the
general design of the tractor, where all the control,s were,
It was really cool,
Then I started it up,and the sound of that Perkin,s V8, was to say the least awesome!
Loud, but sweet too, as only a diesel V8
can sound!

I have seen one in my life time, awsome with twin stacks puffing black smoke. I have heard they do like to drink fuel at an alarming rate.

Chief I agree with you on that tractor as an awesome unit... Never seen a Perkins V8 and can only imagine what it sounds like let alone the power produced from 8 cyls compared to the std 3 banger... Must have so much bottom end to warrant the dualley approach... Very interesting to say the least..

Don't get miss led by the duals. Duals are more for soil compaction reduction that traction. Of course they do help in the traction dept when working very loose fine soils as well as wet muddy the latter up to a point.

I work in a lot of very wet conditions and have stuck loaders, dozers, yes I said dozers, a D5 to be exact and a few 4w4 tractors and in that learning I found that the 4x4 tractors actually far superior in very muddy conditions and work best w/ ag tires.

:fing20: Here I thought I was the only one that had gotten a dozer stuck. Shame of it all I got pulled out by a JD.
:banghead3 I have my D17 Allis stuck in the mud as I type this. :congrats: Removel starts inearnest today.

Best wishes go your way. I know from past experience the time and work effort needed to extract even a 4x4 rubber tired tractor is indeed tiedious to say the least... They eithier high center or sink in the sticky stuff.. Good luck to you Al. keep us postd on your adventure.....

Those V8 Masseys are one FINE looking tractor. I have seen a few show up at auctions. Sound WAY cool also. Keep thinking" MAN!! that would be an AWSOME engine in my truck!!!" :D :D

Paul,as I stated earlier I have never seen one so all I can do is try to imagine what it would sound like... I could see you w/ that gallon per mile V8 in your truck.. ROF Do you know what max gov. speed is.. I think it would be low for the gobs of torque it must produce. High torque and low hp = low rpm because of mass and reliability. May not suit your need for speed Paul ROF

Well how did it go Al? Any headway?? I don't envy you in the retrieving any piece of equipment from any type of situation.. pond, muck hole, wet clay ponds
:bump9: and the list goes on...

Any pictures? I am sure in the company's archieves there are some good photos on some really stuck equipment.. usually a polaroid or two...I will have to look into that...

Anyway, hope all is going well Al.

Haven't had time to even think about the extraction yet. She isn't down to the draw bar yet so she is where she should come out easy.
Had bunches of fun in the bee yard yesterday. Got 5 queens early in the morning to make nukes with so they wouldn't swarm hopefully.

:congrats: :congrats: She is out now. Didn't take much thanks to beeing older and wiser. When I was young she would have been past the draw bar when I stopped trying to get her out ROF . With age comes wisdon some times LOL :fing20: . Wisdom wouldn't have gotten me into that mud in the first place.
