im thinking about getting an elliptical machine...
I want the elliptical because its a good aerobic thing and its real easy on my knees as compared to a treadmill.
according to my therapist, a stationary bike is best, but i would not use one... too boring.. i get to use the elliptical at therapy and its a fun machine to use... and unlike a treadmill or a stationary bike.. you get both your upper and leg moving...

do you guys have much workout equipment? do you like it? do you use it?

We have:
a smaller Weider Weight machine, got it at sears about 7 years ago... love it... use it off and on...

Tread mill, i dont use it much... g/f does in the winter...

speed bag/heavy bag, this is a great thing.. i use it off and on.. but the speed bag is a blast, heavy bag is fun too..

What do you have? do you like it? do you USE it?

My wife has been wanting an elliptical machine for a while now and I suspect we'll get one. Right now we have one of those universal weightlifting stations that let's you do a gazillion different things.....but last I looked it was covered in dust.

I lift weights occasionally. I pretty much limit myself to 12 oz. curls though. ROF :trink39:

I have rollers that I ride my bike on. Haven't used if for awhile though.

I have an incline bench with one of those air cylinder thigs under it that allows you to change the incline while you are lying on the bench. You can do sit-up type exercises on this thing. If I leave it level it makes a handy place to set things on when I come into the house. As a result it doesn't get too dusty. :D

My other piece of exercise equipment is a set of rollers for my bicycle. If you haven't ever seen one, you actually free-ride the bicycle on these rollers. I can assure you that it is not boring, especially if the rear wheel drops off the roller to the side while you are doing an indicated 20 MPH. :omg: Dark rugs hide skid marks well, by the way.

I have a stationary bike that I have to start using agean. The bordum is a biggy though. I got to get a small TV in that room to help that. I have a weight bench and some free weights. I lift at least 3-4 times a week. I mostly do a lot of reps with light weight becouse I am prone to sholder injurys, so I have to take it kinda easy. [dislocated it years ago. Long story, had to do with an oil pit, and bee, and a hose]

other then that, thats all I have. I would like a tred mill, and a unaversal type weight bench, but waiting to find one cheep at a yard sale someday.

I use my treadmill to keep boxes off the floor. :fing20:

Of course when the wife bought it, she had to have the best. I don't think she used it for even a month. Look to buy it used. There is a lot of equipment available. In fact there is a consignment store not far from here that specializes in used equipment. Don't pay retail, much of the used equipment has not been used. ROF

We have both a stationary bike and a elliptical machine. We have made a concerted effort to get into a consistent exercise program this year. Time will tell if we are successful.

John, my wife wanted a Nordic trac a few years ago so I bought her the thing....hardly got used, it just seemed awkward no matter how much we used it. So this past year I took it to goodwill, my advice is use one first if you already haven't and see if you like it.

I've owned a stationary recumbant bike and I liked that the best. I think it was a vision Fitness. Also a nordic trac - got rid of both of those.

I have a good tredmill. We have it in our bedroom. It was the best at hanging clothes on so we kept it. Last time I used it was probably 1999.

Yeah, I do, and I do use the weights ~ ~ as tractor weights on rare occasions, have both the round ones that go on a bar and the rectangle ones what came off one of those professional machines in a gym, that I found at our local scrap metal yard some time ago.
At my age it is too late to try to look like Charles Atlas. People used to say that I looked like a dam greek god. Now they just say that I look like a G.D. greek. ":^)

I have a recumbent stationary bike, a treadmill, a weight bench and set, a mountain bike. I tried the ellipticals, but I found that I pulled my groin using the damn thing. I use the recumbent bike most every day that I am home, but on the road, I use whatever the hotel has or I take a long walk or do push ups/sit-ups.

As long as you get at least 20 minutes a day, it will help to keep you lbs down. I am down 75 lbs from my biggest size (around 375ish from just eating like chit and sitting around feeding our kids). Everything was falling apart. I now play softball, basketball and believe it or not, dodgeball (don't laugh too hard). We have an absolute blast with the dodgeball as you get some guys who can absolutely hum the ball at you. It is a good workout (most nights, we are soaking in sweat when done). It is becoming super popular around here.

I also play modified fastpitch softball during the summer which also give a good workout.

I am now stronger than I was when I was 21!!

One thing I have discovered that has been a godsend was Glucosamine supplements. I take 1500 mg a day and it eliminates more joint pain. The stuff is unbelievable. The results aren't immediate, but within 2-3 weeks of taking them, you feel unbelievably better.

I currently have 2 stationary bikes, a treadmill, a striding machine, and 3 universal type multi-station work out machines, plus a weight bench and a couple hundred pounds of free weights. Total investment is maybe $50. I picked up all the multi-ststion machines for free along the road. Wife occasionally uses the striding machine, I rarely lift weights as I have no time, and the majority were picked up for the weights to be used on the tractors and for the steel to make things out of.

I strongly second the notion that you should try out whatever machines you might be interested in and then go scouting at thrift stores, Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc for used equipment.

Ditto on the Glucosamine/Chondritin. I am only 31 but have been playing basketball hard all my life. Knees were hurting all the time, especially going up stairs or sitting for extended periods of time. About three months after taking it, I now feel like I have a brand new set of knees. I play ball four times a week, lift five times a week, run 15 miles a week and they never hurt at all.

I have a programmable Landice treadmill. Must be over $3,000! Best clothes hanger I ever owned with 20 hours on it!

I believe I mentioned this on the GW site. Wouldn't you know someone captured that
information on Google and emailed me. They wanted to buy the machine! I didn't want to ship 300 pounds to Atlanta though.

I hardly see how one type machine would be less boring then another one. You need to find some way to occupy your brain while you exercise. I spend about 2-3 hours on either an elliptical or upper cardio trainer a week in an athletic club. After spending some time on a professional machine, the consumer models seem pitiful. Sort of like getting off the seat of your Simplicity and then sitting on a ............oh, never mind.
