The best way to determine percent body fat is a water imersion test. In that test the person is measured under water. Since fat floats, it can be used to determine the percent body fat on a person.

Since the test is complicated and requires equipment that most facilities don't have, this is the next best way. Take a few measurements and put it into this formula.

Measure

Belly - right under belly button
Hips - biggest part around butt just below hip bones
Forearm - clench fist and measure biggest part below elbow
wrist - smallest part before the hand
weight - dig out your bathroom scale and use it

Formulas:

Body fat percent = Belly+0.5*hips-2.7*forearm-wrist
Weight of fat = weight*(body fat percent)/100
Lean weight = weight - (weight of fat)
Correct weight = (lean weight) / 0.85

The above formula works for men. There is a slightly different way to calculate woman body fat but I don't have the formula handy.

I will give credit to Covert Bailey on this one, since I pulled the formula out of one of his book. He is an excellent author and I'd recommend buying and reading all he has to say - sell.

I think I'd scare myself.....

For me - sometimes that's what it takes to turn things around.
This time of year I'm getting all kinds of seat time on my tractor and not on my mountain bike.
Christmas cookies, pizza and beer have taken their toll.

I'll have to dig out the formula for women. SJ can do some calculating on #15. He may need a surveyor's tape to get the job done though.

Thank God I never have that problem..I could stand to lose 20 pounds and I'm working on it right now....your analysis reminds me of what my brother dino said " be careful of dickeedoo disease"

I said what is that?

He said "that's when your belly sticks out further than your dickeedoo"

I've crashed many times on mountain bike. I think my shoulders and wrists will never be the same because of it.

However - it is a great workout.

This time of year it's skiing 7 days a week that helps me out. I cross country ski on some pretty hilly trails (skate ski - or freestyle as they also call it).
