That seeder i got turned out to be a magrix 300. Anyone got a manual, or website info?
I see that the gearbox is sandwhiched into the frame by long bolts going thru the box and frame. I am assuming one of these bolt holes is also a lube fill? Box is 2 castings sandwhiched vertically.
Any ifo is appreciated.

Just finished working on my seeder. As I ( and many of you ) suspected, it was a pre-lubed, 'non serviceable' model. The gearbox was 2 cast aluminum halves sandwhiched around the ptoshaft/seeder drive, and 2 captive seals / bearings. Seals were fine and bearings and gears showed no noticeable wear. Grease in it looked like it had had it.
Cleaned it up, and selected an area that was 3/8" thick ( sides and mounting areas were 1/2" ), and dimpled/drilled/tapped/packed and burped.
No leads at the seals or the zerk. Ended up using a 7/32 bit and a combo zerk "T" wrench that had a zerk socket, broken zerk extractor, and thread tap on it. Couldn't have been easier.
I will de-grease it and paint it this weekend.. cant decide whether to go back with it's oem red.. or to paint it nice ford blue. It would look fine in red hanging on one of my N's.. though if I did it in ford blue, it would give me an excuse to drive that shiny ford 5000 around the pasture a bit more...
Can't wait to get something to seed/spread now.
Great deal too.. 150$ plus the price of a pack of zerks.
Pto shaft is nicely un-stuck and greased and slides in and out freely.
In cleaning up the seeder I notice it has an adjustable opening on the bottom letting you choose 1/2/3 drop holes, as well as having the adjustable handle to open the seed gate.. etc... looks to be a great unit...

I've had one for several years.Last spring I needed new meter plates so off to the dealer I go with manual in hand.Parts list in the manual is useless. The parts guy(who is a friend of mine)and I argued for 10 minutes about a part number for another speader that I know will work.He says ok and orders the parts and then says if they don't work I ain't takin em back. They came, they fit and all is good.If you need parts go to tractor supply, rural king or any place that sells that type of spreader.I saw one on a sale a while back that said john deere on it.Same as magrix but green instead of red.And it sold for $450.00.The Work Saver brand is also the same spreader. You put a grease zerk in a gear box that has no vent so be careful that you don't over due it and blow the seals out.Good luck.

I forgot to mention, you spoke of the three holes. There are two plates on the bottom of the hopper. The top plate is to adjust the flow. The bottom plate is to set the throw to left, right,or out the back. You make that adjustment with the lever under the slinger.Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Yep.. when I finished getting it together, I'd shoot a few shots of gears, then back the zerk out to buro it.. did that till I felt resistance, and could get no more air out. I've considered addint a vent plug.. but theoretically.. it shouldn't need much greasing.. the seals are pretty darn good in it..

I figured it was a "Life time lubed" gear box. You did good Soundguy. Now it has many more years of work ahead.
CharlieN,
Welcome to MTF!!!!!! I am assuming from your name that you are a Ford N fan.

Thanks for that info. i hit the worsaver website an downloaded a parts list and exploded diagram.. it's the same exact seeder save for the 2 brace arms. on mine they are flat stock.. on the worsaver they have a crease.. same gearbox and all. Now I have something akin to a 'manual'.. As a nice addition.. i saw that worksaver also sells a flex drive 'cheap' seeder like I have.. Mine is almost shot.. that's why i got theis cone seeder... It had a parts list too.. Now I can order a few parts and have 2 good seeders... Nice...
thanks again.
