Here's a cool example of what can be done with a photo, a good editing software package, and a lot of knowledge and patience....

When I first saw the thumbnail of the second pic, my first thought was that they went way overboard with the enhancements. Now I see what they were trying to do after opening the thumb. Pretty cool. That would make a great 8X10 or maybe larger framed picture. :fing32:

Very nice edit of a real picture and turning it into a great poster.

That's more effort than I've ever taken on changing a photo.

Here's an some amateur examples of what you can do with Photoshop Elements 3, which is a cheaper stripped down version of Photoshop CS.

Thanks to Mark (mbkerk), as I think this is one of his pics.

First one is a before and after pic, just touching up the original photo.

I think he did a GREAT job! Sometimes you can get a "painting" look from a photo. Wish I had the patience! :banghead3

Curt got me into Elements 3, as well as other vices... I'm pretty sure my comment won't earn me a slot on his "ignore list"......will it Mow?

Ok, Uncle Greg has forced me to start practicing! These images are compressed and downsized pretty hard, so the effect is more dramatic on the originals. The effect worked pretty well if you look at the people on the right side in the altered image

Thanks! I doubt if I'll ever get good enough to do something like the pic that was in Greg's first post, but even the consumer version of Photoshop CS (Elements) makes it easy to apply filters and affects to digital images. It's knowing what, when, and how much of those effects to use, that makes it hard to do anything close to that pic in the first post.

I love what you did with the Avery Curt... at least the top one! Where does one get Photoshop E3? CS? Are they spendy?

Mark, Elements is version 4 for Windooooze. Just came out. <$100. Has most of full blown PS, except the real photo lab stuff for RAW and a few other things. Very powerful! Mac is still version 3, but 4 will be out soon. It's a really good program, I use it a lot, and I'm still just learning.

Mark, if you Google Adobe Photoshop Elements 4, you will find prices ranging from $49 to $89. I have no idea of the risks from ordering from the "lowballers".

Here's the system requirements for Elements 4.0

Intel® Pentium® III or 4 or Intel Centrino™ (or compatible) 800MHz processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, Home Edition, or Media Center Edition 2005 with Service Pack 2
256MB of RAM (512MB recommended)
900MB of available hard-disk space
Color monitor with 16-bit color video card
1,024x768 monitor resolution
Microsoft DirectX 9 compatible display driver
CD-ROM drive
For handhelds: Requires Palm OS® 4.0, 4.1, or 5.0 and Palm Desktop 4.0 or 4.01
