Sbman,

I'm glad you got my general post because I couldnt reach out to you privately - at at the peril of getting banned for advertising another site!!
There is more folks over at GW who have 3000 machines....if you know of any tell them to stop by. The reason why I wanted to build some archieves for the pictures and general information speciafically about the 3000 series that can help those who have them. GW dumps the info after two weeks basically -gone forever
I like your pictures the best because you got the tiller and a box blade that
my compact uses, but the Cub 3000 with 2wd handles it just fine!!
Did you get your reverse pedal adjusted correctly?

For general Cub 3000 worshipers (myself and others) Sbman posted some pictures of Cub's hydrolic tiller with reverse direction. Its one of the nicest tilling setups you can buy under the ultra expensive professional harley rakes
i think they call them....I will let him show the detail and results at his leisure
but its nice to see that setup. Really glad he made it here!!

Here are a couple more pics that I had posted on the other forum. The tiller does a really nice job, I was really surprised at how easily it turns the ground over.

I've used the box scraper quite a bit now and I'm very happy with what I can get done with it. I can rip hard ground up with 3 teeth extended OK, but if I only put 1 tooth down it can dig real nice. I'm sure a bigger machine can cut a lot deeper, but I'm happy with what I can do. Once I add a bit more weight with wheel weights and switch to ag tires it should be even better.

Does anyone know what the lift ability of the 3 point is on the 3000 series? I haven't been able to find the spec anywhere.

Ducati: I was also wondering if your snowblower attaches to the front splines of the PTO? I'd like to see some closeups of how that attaches if it does, I want to fabricate a mount for a hydro pump up there.

I haven't gotten the reverse problem corrected yet, but I'm convinced it is just an adjustment. I talked to the dealer about it and they are going to fax me a diagram that shows the adjustment. If I can't get it, they'll adjust it when they deliver my mowing deck.

This pic shows the hydro pump mounted under the machine:

Sbman,

Thanks for posting those extra pictures, its nice to see this setup. I would imagine that tiller being 400 plus lbs, maybe 500. I will try and located the spec on the tiller. I can see the 3pt lifting 500 lbs without a problem...
That box blade is 400 lbs and I'm sure it goes right up.....your front end might get too light however!
I will post pictures of the front end from my Blower in a few days -because its still dark when I get home, so the weekend would be best. Yes the front part of the PTO is where the shaft with the quick attach coupler attaches to.

At least on this site the good info lasts, along with the good info

Ducati

I think the tiller is about 250-300 lbs since we had to lift it out of the back of my 4 runner. 3 guys did it ok. When I picked up the machine I didn't get a long enough trailer to haul the machine with the tiller attached I thought 8' would be long enough but it wasn't.

The box blade is really heavy. I can lift the front of the machine when the box blade is in the air but their is still at least 100-150 lbs on the front wheels. When I sit on the machine I'm sure that puts some more weight on the front as well. It gets light enough that I loose steering when I've got it really full.

Another thing I've found is that the Diff Lock sometimes requires a quick turn to one direction or the other to get it to release. It makes sense now that I think about it.

Where are all the other 3000 series pics?

Hi Sb and welcome........I know youll enjoy your 3000 series. Is your dealer a pretty active Cub dealer? If not.....and I would understand since California isn't a huge tractor market....There are a few things on that machine being a little older that might require a few updates. Send me your s/n and I'll run it for you and let you know what to do.

The tillers are absolutely awesome. We sold one to a little league group that tilled infields.Hard clay.......hadn't been groomed in years. When I delivered,I fired it up crossed my fingers and WOW.....machine just hummed along no muss no fuss and tilled like a demon.Damn thing didnt even shake. :fing32:

Anything to look out for on a 2003 3204 with the 20HP Kohler? My warranty runs out in June I believe this year.....

Just checking in for the first time. Saw the post Duc made on the GW forum.

Got my my 3204 about the same time Duc got his. Only attachment I have is the larger series mower deck. When I tried out the Cub the first time it had a smaller deck on it and wouldn't cut the mustard so to speak. Wasn't able to get half way around the patch without killing the engine twice. Just too much grass. Dealer came out again in a week or so with a 48" deck. Same spot with an aditional weeks growth. Like a hot knife through butter.

If anyone has had problem with the electro/vac selenoid that actuates the PTO, I've got some experience how to address the problem of it sticking.

For ground engagement I still use my old Bolens 1257 (1970) that still runs great. Have had the Bolens since new. After 30+ yrs I still like this old machine. You don't find GT's built as strong as this old machine is and I still think it has the best foot control for the hydrostatic transmission.

The Cub replaced a JD 318. As can be seen I've got a few years experience with several preminum class GT's.

Here's wishing the new forum all the best.

Hey Mickey,

I'm glad you made it - I inadvertainly got myself booted from GW trying to
bring some Cub guys over- So I dont know if I will be able to sign on as Ducati...ever again

If you guys see WildBill who has a real nice collection of older Cubs, tell him I say hello and stop on by here...but dont get banned, and dont trust the email
route- I would assume spike reads them?

Post some pictures Mickey - and whats the secret of the solenoid besides keeping it dry :) when I use my washer, it takes a while before it dries out

2003 was pretty solid Duc.......older machine had its vac PTO improved though and SB's machine could fall either way depending on s/n.....but it probably needs it. Theres a kit to replace entire unit.
About only other thing for 2003 would be proper adjustment of cruise control.

Welcome to the Cub forum Mickey !!

Duc.

I've had problems twice with the selenoid sticking. Had it replaced last year under warranty and then the first time I mowed this yr it was stuck again.

I pulled the selenoid and noted it snapped together on the bottom. Carefully took the bottom off and noted a piece of high density foam under the bottom cover. It was dirty and from the looks of the dirt distribution it appeard to be open cell foam (a filter). Pulled the foam and saw a center bore into the core of the selenoid and a spring in the hole. Got the feeling that at the bottom of the hole was either a piston or disk valve. Pushed gently on the valve. Next put a couple drops of thin oil down the hole. reassembled and valve working like new. If the foam I saw is in fact being used as a filter. I would guess if one lives where it is dusty while using the tractor, one should clean and possibly oil the filter ever so often. With care this should keep you away from having to buy a new selenoid every time it gets stuck from dirt getting past the foam.

Neil,

I wouldn't say that there is any such thing as an 'active' dealership of any brand in the garden tractor class here in San Diego (Except JD). The dealer I bought from is 90 miles away over in El Centro and they mainly handle farm equipment. I'll grab the serial number tonight and I appreciate any info you are able to dig up.

The only problem I've had so far is that the reverse pedal needs to be adjusted. I'm barely getting any power in reverse, I can't even back up a slight hill. I looked under the machine and there are a lot of rods and shafts and several points that look adjustable. I didn't want to start adjusting until I knew the proper location to adjust, it didn't seem obvious. Any idea on that?

ducati996

I would say that the dealer should do this for you, but the 3 ways to get underneath are (this assumes the tiller & mower are not attached):

First are Car ramps , another way is to remove the seat ( a few bolts in seat channels), and rear end access plate (4 bolts)...overall not labor intensive, and you have full access
to all linkages. You have to see the linkages for the reverse pedal and follow its movement when fully extended. Something is either bent or not being engaged correctly - you can also see where the reverse PTO disable metal tab is located. You can simply bend it out of the way, however I think that also disables the reverse lights. It might be a two plunger setup, one for reverse, and one for the lights. You are lucky if it is, you bend just the reverse PTO tab....Maybe someone can give specifics, since I dont have a 3225 -3235 series with the reverse or rear lights at all- That is a nice feature and very desirable. Not sure if Cub was thinking to good when they removed that feature on the new 3235 series from last years model.

Duc,

thx for the pic. I'm looking forward to receiving the rest of my attachments. Especially the mower! I've got weeds and grass a foot deep now.

I did the first oil change today and got a shot under the hood. I thought some of the 'belt drive' riders might like to see a shot of a 'real' tractor engine. :fing02:

Hey sbman;

I read with great interest your post over on GW, and then here. Nice rig you got there, I wish I had the set-up. I have a 3185 -- I know, I know -- it's barely a GT, and I should have gotten something bigger. But, it was a good deal (not as sweet as yours), and it serves me well. I've had it for almost five years, and it has such a sweet cut (extremely high vacuum).

So, I also had the sluggish reverse. It was doggy in reverse from day one, and I asked the dealer about it. He said something like "why do you need to go fast in reverse"? From his tone, I didn't even broach the subject of not being able to back up an incline. So, I did solve it.

Well sort of. I found that when I pushed on the R pedal, the FWD pedal would move towards me. So, I started sticking my toes under the FWD pedal and pulling the pedal back towards me. Man, it really goes in reverse when you do that.

Eventually, though, either my linkage just wore out, or that had an adverse effect. The next effect was that the FWD pedal stuck in the down position.

I took it in to a dealer (the orginal dealer went paws up and skipped town), and they "replaced a bushing", and everything was fine. A year later and it does it again. :bonk:

So that's my LONG introduction to this forum, and an even LONGER way of asking you to please feel me in, if you get an answer to how to fix this problem yourself.

Oh, and my tractor is in pieces right now, but I can't wait to get it back together.

-Matt

Welcome Slim,

From what I know of the 3185 is has the same frame and options as the 3204 or newer 3100. I think the power was 18hp? so in my book thats a GT !!
Post some pictures if you can....With most dual pedals it will require lubrication somewhat frequently. I have full power in my reverse by disabling the reverse cut off for the PTO. I dont know if the 3185 came with that but full power reverse should be at hand....You have to look at the linkages in motion to see if a bushing went or a rod is bent.

3185/3186 came with a 44" deck hung already,no tilt,no tail lights low back seat and slightly smaller tires. 18hp KOhler command twin on the 3186. It was hitting price point of 4995.00.Low for its day. No corners cut in frame or drive train...its a full 3000 series. Nice tractor.

Welcome and sorry your post got by me... :bonk:
