I am not sure if I have a fuel gelling problem or not. Per this thread:
http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?p=67943#post67943
While plowing some snow this past weekend, my JD955 would not rev up to full PTO RPM (3200). It would top out at about 2700 or so. I usually do not run it at full RPM, but the last time I did it was warm weather and it revved pretty much up to full PTO. Other than the limited RPM, it ran fine.
Suggestions?

I'm not a JD man (but I may be-if I can sneak a 755 tractor I ran across)...
I know that series of tractor had some power probs when the fuel got really cold....We (my work) used one 4 years to plow snow/spread salt in an industrial plant, and if it didn't have side engine covers on it-it wud run really cold, and wouldn't idle right....Don't even cut it off, if not inside a building....Temps usually around 15*-wind chill about 0*....
We used Amoco (@the time #1 priemier fuel, with maybe a little Pro-serv. cond. in it)....Not much help-sorry :fing20:

I'm assuming it's a diesel...if that's the case it's definitely an indicator of gelled fuel

Yes it is a 3cyl Yanmar diesel, as are all x55 series JDs. I suspected fuel issues, as the fuel in it is still from supplies I bought in the summer. I was not aware that there was a different formula for winter, but that makes perfect sense.
I suppose then I should add some "Pro-serv" or similar fuel additive now?
Thanks.

I've had good luck with PowerService. Keep your eye on the fuel bowl.

mr67gp, just how long was the tractore running when you tried to get full ptpower? What was the temp?
Just to throw another idea to the wind. We have a simular prob here in cent Fl when teps get to mid thirtys and found that the trans fluid (napa universal tractor fluid) was the culpret until the unit had warmed up. We now use a universal tractor fluid by unical and seems to have licked the problem for us.
