Kinda like standing in New York City and staring up at the sky scrapers! Except INFINITLY more awesome, beautiful and inspiring.
Did they have any info on how far DOWN these trees go?

"BIG TREE" indeed!!! Reminds me of a stop I made on a bicycle trip down the Pacific coast in the early '90's. Started in Astoria, OR by the Washington state border and ended 6 days later in northern CA (Eureka). As I was riding along, I saw one of those brown signs with the cut-in lettering in yelllow that said "Big Tree" with an arrow pointing left. I stopped and took a look, walked back down a path off the road, and it was one BIG tree. :1221: Thanks for the memory jog.

Was one reference to how deep the roots were buy I can't remember. I know that they are not very deep and can topple with a very strong wind and soggy ground.

I was was born and raised in central California, and literally grew up camping in and around Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks, home of the Giant Sequoias. They are truly majestic and awe inspiring.

Jedediah Smith State Park, in northern California near the Oregon border, is another beautiful grove of trees. Scenes of Moon of Endor in Star Wars, Return of the Jedi, was actually filmed there.

The Sequoia's do get big. I have a number of Sequoia's on the place but they are not the same as the calif giants. The Calif giants do grow further North if one plants them but the are not native. The sequoia's on my place are about 100' tall and growing. We prefer to use the sequoia as our Christmas tree of choice.

Brought one back from Calif 6-8 yrs ago for my son. Was in a large coffee can at the time but now it's about 15-20ft tall.

The pic is of a Sitka Spruce on the Or coast and is known as the octopus tree.

Carl,

Cool pics....

Here is what you can do in PB... Clickable thumbnail that loads quickly, but will open up full size.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/kgregc/MTF/th_Carl1.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/kgregc/MTF/Carl1.jpg)

Just click on the small box just under your pic, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Generate HTML and IMG code". It will take you to new window with several code windows to copy. Choose the "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended" and copy the code. Go to your forum reply window and paste the code in it. Click Submit Reply, and your pic will look like that above.

The picture is still very large, physical size wise, and you can resize it within the Edit menu in PB. Just click on the Edit menu above the pic you want to resize, determine whether 75%, 50% or 25% is the best reduction percentage, choose it and click Resize. You will probably use 75 or 50 the most.

This is the same pic, reduced to 75% of the one above. (Note, you cannot reverse the reduction on the pic in PB. If you wish to change it, you need to delete the pic and re-upload to PB).

I hope this makes sense...

Carl, sorry...

PB is just short for PhotoBucket.
